China is the country with the most scientists (353), followed by the US (171), and other countries such as Iran (51), the UK (40), Australia (48), Germany (27), Singapore (26), and South Korea (15). The leader of the ranking is Mohsen Sheikholeslami (Iran). The top 10 scientists come from the following countries: China (5), the US, Vietnam, Italy, Iran, and Pakistan (1).
The criteria for a scientist to be evaluated in the global rankings are based on the General H-index (an evaluation index based on scientific articles and citation values across all disciplines), the contribution rate in a certain field, in addition to their awards and achievements.
For this ranking, Research.com looked at data from 166,880 scientists, with the world's top publication and citation productivity, using data from Google Scholar and Microsoft Academic Graph. Only the top 1,000 scientists with the highest H-index were included in the ranking. Research.com said that the ranking position is not an absolute measure to quantify the contributions of scientists. They cross-referenced and verified each scientist through a number of other criteria such as the number of publications in major journals, conference proceedings to consider their impact in certain specialties.
Microsoft Academic Graph (MAG) was a free service that worked similarly to paid platforms such as Scopus, Dimensions, and Web of Science, but was discontinued at the end of 2021. Research.com believes that MAG remains one of the most prominent and robust databases available to the scientific community for conducting research and building scientific tools.
