Recent floods have caused landslides at 41 points on two traffic routes in the border area of Huong Khe district (Ha Tinh). The problem has not yet been resolved.
Rocks, soil and trees are suspended at landslide points on the slope of Highway DT.553.
After two heavy rains and floods in October, Provincial Road DT.553, section Km 70+000 to Km 82+977 from the border commune of Huong Lam to the Border Guard Station of Ban Giang (Huong Vinh), suffered landslides at 29 large and small points, many of which were quite serious. After the natural disasters, the management unit, Ha Tinh Traffic Construction and Management Joint Stock Company, coordinated with local authorities to make preliminary repairs to temporarily reopen the route.
However, the landslides at the last 13 km of the DT553 route have not been completely repaired. Many piles of soil and rocks on the road (on the positive slope) have not been cleared, many negative slopes have subsided, and landslides at hidden locations or sharp bends remain in their original state.
Ha Tinh Traffic Construction and Management Joint Stock Company fixed the initial landslide 25 days ago.
Mr. Le Doan Thuc - Deputy Director of Ha Tinh Traffic Construction and Management Joint Stock Company said: "We have just carried out the first step of the repair so that people can travel temporarily. The volume of landslides is large, many locations are dangerous, so it takes a lot of time, money as well as a feasible solution.
We are coordinating with relevant departments and agencies, especially the Department of Transport and the Department of Finance, to inspect the current situation, assess the volume to report and ask the Provincial People's Committee to allocate funds from the source to overcome the consequences of natural disasters."
Many sections of the border patrol road in Huong Vinh commune are currently buried.
The patrol route is about 9 km long (in Huong Vinh commune) connecting with DT.553 at Km 82+977 to milestone 511/1, there are also 12 landslides. Among them, there are many particularly serious ones, on the negative tuluy slope, the landslide is dozens of meters deep, on the positive tuluy slope, trees are lying down, and rocks and soil cover the entire road surface.
The landslide on the border patrol route managed by the Ha Tinh Border Guard has affected border protection, forest protection, and people's travel.
The landslide patrol road greatly affects the performance of the Border Guard's duties and the travel of the people.
Lieutenant Colonel Phan Trong Nam - Head of Ban Giang Border Guard Station said: "This national defense road was built a long time ago, not regularly maintained and repaired, many sections have been degraded, so in recent natural disasters, serious landslides have occurred, especially in the area near marker 511/1.
Immediately after the incident, we inspected the scene, reported to the Command and mobilized officers and soldiers to make initial repairs so that motorbikes, pedestrians and livestock could travel. However, due to the large volume of landslides and many dangerous locations, the soldiers could not do it, so they needed machinery to do it for 7-10 days and a lot of money for repairs. Currently, we are waiting for instructions from our superiors and if the weather is favorable, we will start fixing the problem in the coming days."
On the national defense road there are many muddy sections, rocks and gravel lying all over the road surface.
Ms. Ho Thi Ha in Ban Giang 2 (Huong Vinh commune) reported: “The landslides on two important roads are affecting and causing inconvenience to people’s travel, trade, and production. We are also very worried because traveling on these roads is not safe, especially in the rain and wind, at night. Therefore, we hope that authorities and sectors will soon fix and repair the landslides.”
