Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam Uong Viet Dung has just announced that in order to create maximum conditions to serve passengers with travel needs during Tet, airlines have added 15 aircraft, bringing the total number of aircraft in operation to 212.

The Authority has also increased the slot coordination parameters at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat International Airports to 46 or 48 flights/hour to facilitate airlines to plan operations early, supplement supply capacity, and increase night flights.

In addition to expanding night operations at local airports, the Authority has directed airlines to optimize aircraft schedules and increase night flights (Vietnam Airlines arranged 1,500 flights, Vietjet 1,590 flights, Bamboo 260 flights).

“Operating night flights helps reduce congestion at airports, limit delays and cancellations, and meet the increasing demand for air transport…”, Mr. Uong Viet Dung informed.

During the Lunar New Year holiday period in 2025 (from January 24 to February 2 - from December 25 of the year of Giap Thin to January 5 of the year of At Ty), the total passenger transport output of the whole market increased by 17.8%.

Of which, international passenger transport reached 1.35 million passengers (up 23%); domestic passenger transport reached 1.14 million passengers (up 12% over the same period in 2024).

Passengers passing through airports nationwide also increased compared to the same period last year, with approximately 3.6 million passengers (up 16% compared to the same period in 2024).

Of which, Tan Son Nhat airport reached approximately 1.38 million passengers (up 7.6%).

In particular, during this period, Tan Son Nhat airport served from 824 to 970 takeoffs and landings/day, with an average of 138 thousand passengers/day.

The peak day, a record, was January 24 (ie December 25, the last working day before Tet holiday), Tan Son Nhat airport operated 1,002 takeoffs and landings (an increase of 10% compared to the same period in 2024), with 152,000 passengers (an increase of 13% compared to the same period in 2024).

At Noi Bai airport, an airport representative said that during the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday, the airport safely served nearly 5,500 flights with nearly 914,000 passengers. Of which, there were days when it served 616 flights and 108,000 passengers, higher than the same period last year. Notably, during the Tet holiday, there were 604 items left behind by passengers.

In addition, a representative of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam also admitted that the problem that arose during some days during the peak period of Lunar New Year was the situation of delayed and delayed flights.

The main cause is the unfavorable weather conditions when fog and low clouds appear in the area of airports and seaports in the North.

In addition, flight delays also come from infrastructure overload, which prolongs the time planes have to wait to taxi into the parking lot and taxi out onto the road when operations are increased to serve passenger demand.
