VnExpressVnExpress03/08/2023

Of the 27,000 Vietnamese people who came to China to study in 2021-2022, about 1,700 won scholarships granted by the Chinese government.

The information was given by Mr. Hung Ba, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam, at the ceremony to award admission certificates to candidates who won the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) in Hanoi on the afternoon of August 2.

"This proves that China is increasingly respected and looked forward to by Vietnamese students," said Mr. Hung Ba, hoping that the candidates receiving this scholarship will cherish and seize the opportunities to experience during their time studying in China.

The Chinese ambassador stressed that the Chinese government is promoting development cooperation in the education sector as well as strengthening the construction of world-class universities. That is why Chinese universities are increasingly ranked high in world university rankings.

Mr. Nguyen Hai Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam, said that the two countries have a long history of cooperation in education, in many forms and levels.

In recent times, China has trained many experts in Vietnam in fields in which it has strengths such as Medicine, Tourism, Science and Technology, Agriculture, and Fisheries.

In November 2022, the Ministers of Education and Training of the two countries signed an educational cooperation agreement on behalf of the two governments. Accordingly, the two sides will encourage and promote cooperation in information exchange, lecturers, language training, and research cooperation.

"Regarding scholarships, China commits to maintaining 150 full scholarships and 100 partial scholarships for Vietnamese students. Priority will be given to scholarships in fields and majors that Vietnam has high demand for," said Mr. Thanh.

According to Mr. Thanh, the number of Vietnamese students studying in China is about 12,000-15,000 each year. Vietnam is one of the countries with the most students receiving scholarships from this country.

In addition to the scholarships under the above agreement, the Chinese government also provides many full scholarships through other agencies. During General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to China in late October last year, General Secretary Xi Jinping pledged to provide no less than 1,000 government scholarships to Vietnam over five years.

The scholarship will cover tuition, dormitory fees and a monthly allowance of about 2,500 - 3,500 yuan (8.6 - 12 million VND), depending on the level of study.
