2 Comac 'made in China' aircraft arrive in Vietnam for the first time

At 11:50 and 12:40 on February 26, two C919 and ARJ21 aircraft of Chinese domestic aircraft manufacturer Comac landed at Van Don International Airport (Quang Ninh).

Accordingly, after participating in Singapore Airshow 2024, the pair of C919 and ARJ21 aircraft flew directly to Van Don airport to continue participating in the exhibition and demonstration of aircraft of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac) lasting for 4 days, from February 26 to 29.

The C919 and ARJ21-700 are the first two civil aircraft in China designed and manufactured by Comac, of which the ARJ21-700 is a twin-engine jet with a maximum of 90 seats, and the C919 is a narrow-body passenger aircraft with a maximum of 192 seats.

This is also the first time the C919 has been widely introduced at an international exhibition event and in Vietnam.

Two Chinese aircraft will participate in the Comac Airshow exhibition and demonstration from February 26 to 29 in Vietnam.

The C919 is nearly 39 m long, has a capacity of 168 passengers, and a maximum range of 4,075 km. According to previously released images, the C919 has a seat configuration similar to the Boeing 737 Max and Airbus A320/321 models with a central aisle and two rows of seats (3 on each side). The C919 is expected to compete with the Boeing 737 and Airbus 320.

The C919 aircraft on display at the event is part of China Eastern, the first Chinese airline to receive delivery of the narrow-body aircraft. The aircraft has been called by Chinese President Xi Jinping as the driving force behind China’s “new development model” along with other scientific and technological achievements. The C919 has put China in the short list of countries that can design and manufacture aircraft themselves, including the US, Russia, Brazil, Canada, the UK, France and Germany.

Mr. Hoang Van Dung, Deputy Director of Van Don International Airport, said that the COMAC aircraft exhibition and demonstration event held this time has affirmed its position as the first and leading private airport in Vietnam, which has full infrastructure to organize major aviation events around the world.

The event will create the premise for the exploitation of commercial flights from Chinese provinces and cities to Van Don, Quang Ninh and in the near future from Shantou city (a coastal city in Guangdong province, China) to Van Don (Quang Ninh).

The C919 aircraft was welcomed with a water cannon ceremony upon landing at Van Don International Airport, Quang Ninh.

According to the schedule, the opening ceremony of the COMAC aircraft exhibition and demonstration will take place on the morning of February 27. Delegates and guests will be able to visit and experience test flights on these aircraft. After that, the aircraft will be displayed statically at Van Don airport, and will be scheduled to travel to Con Dao, Tan Son Nhat, and Dong Hoi. After the event in Van Don, the Comac aircraft will continue to fly to Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, and Vientiane (Laos).

Previously, on November 5-6, 2022, at Van Don International Airport, an exhibition also took place, displaying modern private aircraft of the world's most luxurious aircraft company Gulfstream and the high-end general airline Sun Air of Sun Group.
