The sports festival took place on January 7 and 8, attracting more than 1,000 students in Ho Chi Minh City.

Raising sense of responsibility for students and teachers

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City - said that this sports festival is an opportunity to encourage, motivate and create a competitive atmosphere in teaching and learning national defense and security education.

“The sports festival also contributes to promoting propaganda and raising the sense of responsibility of management staff, teachers and students in building national defense and people's security in general, and national defense and security education in schools in particular.

Besides, promptly commend and reward collectives and individuals with high achievements in competitions, overcome limitations and weaknesses in the process of organizing teaching and learning of national defense and security education in schools in the city" - Mr. Hieu said.

Tran Dang Khoa (12th grade student, Nguyen Thai Binh High School, Tan Binh District) said he was very happy and excited to see many schools participating.

“Participating in national defense and security activities helps us improve our physical strength and learning spirit. Before the exam, we practiced for nearly 5 months, everyone tried their best. I hope to achieve results to bring back to the school and discover my inner abilities” – Khoa confided.

Vu Nam Phuong (10A2 student, Ernst Thälmann High School, District 1) shared: “This is the first time I have participated in such a grand sports event. I started to study for more than a month, the teachers gave me enthusiastic instructions, guided me in movements and theory. Through the competition, I learned a lot and gained more experience.”

Training students to develop comprehensively

Major General Tran Ngoc Thanh - Director of the Department of National Defense and Security Education, Ministry of Education and Training - emphasized that national defense and security education is a part of national education.

“This is the basic content in building a national defense and people's security, contributing to training students to develop comprehensively, have knowledge about national defense and security, and the tradition of fighting against foreign invaders of the nation.

At the same time, it is necessary to build awareness, responsibility and obligation of citizens in protecting the Fatherland, enhance patriotism, love for socialism, be vigilant against plots and tricks of hostile forces; train necessary military and security skills to participate in the cause of building and strengthening national defense and protecting the Fatherland" - Mr. Thanh said.
