Yen Minh ensures urban environmental sanitation

BHG - Faced with the urbanization process posing many challenges to environmental sanitation (ES) and improving the quality of life, the People's Committee of Yen Minh district has strengthened its direction to effectively implement ES, ensuring harmonious development between the economy and the ecosystem serving tourism.

The main cause of environmental pollution is the amount of household waste, many types of plastic waste and chemicals that are difficult to decompose, causing long-term effects on the land and ecosystem. In addition, as tourism in the Stone Plateau develops strongly, the amount of emissions from vehicles is also increasing. In the first quarter of 2025 alone, Yen Minh district welcomed a total of 64,335 tourists, the increase in the number of visitors leads to a huge amount of waste that needs to be collected and treated.

Yen Minh district has 18 communes and towns, especially localities with large populations such as Yen Minh town, Mau Due commune, Huu Vinh... In response to the requirements for ensuring environmental sanitation, the district People's Committee regularly directs departments, branches, associations and unions at all levels to launch community campaigns such as: "Building a family of 5 no, 3 clean"; "Green Sunday"; "Smart mass mobilization" associated with disinfection of livestock environments; general environmental sanitation... At the same time, promote propaganda andeducation to raise awareness of people as well as the younger generation about the importance of environmental protection, forming green lifestyle habits. Thanks to that, people proactively maintain hygiene, classify waste, limit the use of disposable plastic products, reducing pressure on the waste treatment system.

As the unit responsible for sanitation, collection, transportation and treatment of household waste, the Yen Minh District Public Service - Environment and Water Supply and Drainage Center focuses on improving operational efficiency, striving to build an increasingly green - clean - beautiful urban environment. Comrade Hoang Van Chien, Director of the Center, said: The Center currently has over 40 officers and employees, performing tasks according to contracts on environmental sanitation, maintenance of trees, flower gardens and lighting systems. We focus on doing a good job of thoroughly collecting and transporting waste in the areas of Yen Minh, Huu Vinh and Mau Due towns. Do a good job of taking care of and managing trees and flower gardens, not allowing households to arbitrarily cut and prune trees unsafely; regularly dredge roadsides and sidewalks.

Yen Minh District Public Service Center - Environment and Water Supply and Drainage is effectively operating and exploiting the waste incinerator in Ban Vang village, Huu Vinh commune. Waste is treated using TP-2800 incinerator technology combined with open-air composting and burial methods; thereby, increasing operating capacity, not leaving waste behind. In 2024 alone, the Center organized the collection and cleaning of waste with an area of ​​33.7 million m2, processing more than 6,000 tons of waste. For trees, proactively care for and prune, especially areas at risk of breaking, falling before the rainy season, storms and limiting traffic visibility. On average, every year, weeding is carried out on both sides of the road, weeding at the base of trees in the central area of ​​over 55,300 m2. Regarding public lighting, the Center maintains the management and operation of the high-voltage grid system, regularly maintaining 7 control cabinets; 20 sets of public LED lights serve major events and ensure lighting at night, maintaining security and order in the area.

With many specific measures, urban environmental sanitation work in Yen Minh is increasingly effective, creating a neat urban landscape, leaving a beautiful image in the eyes of tourists when coming to the area. In the coming time, the district will continue to direct specialized agencies to effectively implement programs related to environmental sanitation; order urban public services; mobilize people to actively participate in tree planting and street cleaning activities to create a common awareness of environmental protection.
