The Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Son La province has just sent a document to the Department of Health and the People's Committee of Moc Chau district requesting to inspect, verify and handle information reported by VietNamNet newspaper reflecting the situation of medical waste dumped at Moc Chau landfill.

Accordingly, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Son La province requested the People's Committee of Moc Chau district to implement a number of contents including:

Direct specialized departments and the District Police to coordinate with the authorities to deploy measures to verify the contents reported by the press; If any violation of environmental protection laws is detected, it is necessary to immediately take preventive measures, handle them according to authority and recommend competent authorities to handle them according to regulations;

Moc Chau District People's Committee presides over and coordinates with Son La Urban Environment and Services Joint Stock Company and Moc Chau District General Hospital to review, classify, and count the volume of medical waste at the landfill area, organize collection and transportation using equipment that ensures regulations for treatment at Moc Chau District General Hospital;

Propose that Moc Chau District People's Committee strictly and fully implement the responsibilities of the facility owner in implementing the contents according to the approved detailed Environmental Protection Project. At the same time, regularly supervise the unit collecting and transporting domestic solid waste to properly implement the collection, transportation and treatment process of waste in accordance with regulations.

In addition, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment requested the Department of Health to strengthen inspection and supervision of medical waste management, especially facilities in Moc Chau district. At the same time, direct medical facilities in the province, especially in Moc Chau district, to strictly implement regulations on medical waste management according to the Law on Environmental Protection.

The document of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment also requires Son La Urban Environment and Services Joint Stock Company - Moc Chau District Branch to strictly comply with the process of collecting, transporting and treating waste according to the approved content in the Environmental Protection Project.

Previously, VietNamNet reported on the pollution at the domestic waste dump in Moc Chau town. Here, untreated leachate causes an unpleasant odor, which in the long term may affect the groundwater. This open-air dump spreads a foul odor to the surrounding areas, affecting the health and disrupting the lives of residents in Sub-area 14, Moc Chau town, Moc Chau district.

By early June, the amount of solid waste here had reached an overload. The dumping area had no protective fence and was only a few dozen meters from residential areas.

Immediately after VietNamNet's reflection, on June 11, the Department of Environmental Pollution Control (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) directed its affiliated units to request inspection and report on the reflection of waste pollution in Moc Chau district, Son La province.
