Specifically, according to information from Naver blog account "yeux1122" , citing sources from Apple's supply chain, Apple may be in the final stages of selecting a major supplier for foldable screen technology.

Apple reportedly set strict technical requirements for potential suppliers, focusing on maintaining current standards for thickness, dimensions, and curvature radius, while also requiring significant improvements in durability and crease prevention on the display.

Several component manufacturers are said to have made significant progress recently to meet Apple's demanding standards.

The supplier selection process is expected to end between late February and early April, although Apple has yet to make a final decision.

While the report doesn't specify which device this display is for, the development timeline suggests it could be a foldable iPhone.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently said that Apple's foldable iPhone is still in the planning stages, with many experts predicting a release in late 2025 and 2027.

The Information has suggested that Apple could release a clamshell-style foldable iPhone as early as 2026.

Apple is also said to be working on larger foldable devices. The Wall Street Journal recently reported that the company is working on a 19-inch foldable device that "could function like a laptop."

Bloomberg 's Mark Gurman also mentioned Apple's plans for a "giant" folding iPad that could launch in 2028, with the goal of creating a device that has no creases and looks like a seamless sheet of glass.

Earlier in 2024, a report from Korea's Alpha Biz (via Digitimes ) said that Apple's foldable iPhone (or foldable iPad) would be further delayed until 2027.

The reason is that Apple is struggling with creases caused by folding screens, something that all foldable smartphones (so far) have suffered from to varying degrees.

While industry speculation points to Apple developing a clamshell-style foldable iPhone like the Galaxy Flip, it’s also possible that the company is working on a book-style foldable iPhone like the Galaxy Fold. It could look like an iPhone when folded but like an iPad Mini when unfolded.
