When every family and every person gathers and reunites, Tet for the transmission "soldiers" is still like a normal day, even more special and important so that the inter-regional electricity flow is always smooth, so that the happy days of every family and every person are always complete!

500kV line 3 through Thanh Hoa.

With the increase in transmission capacity when the 500kV Line 3 from Quang Trach (Quang Binh) to Pho Noi (Hung Yen) and the 220kV Line Nam Sum - Nong Cong are completed in 2024, the transmission line through Thanh Hoa currently has 2 500kV transformer stations, 5 220kV transformer stations and more than 1,100km of 220kV and 500kV lines. Along with meeting the electricity demand for Thanh Hoa, this transmission system plays an extremely important role in the country's inter-regional electricity supply.

Technical staff of Thanh Hoa 500kV Transformer Station use thermal scanners to monitor equipment status more frequently during Tet to detect high load conditions and incidents early.

Thanh Hoa 500kV transformer station is one of the three central transformer stations of the 500kV line 3, along with the 500kV transformer station in Pho Noi (Hung Yen) and Quynh Luu (Nghe An). This is known as the "super high voltage" station, with the scale of a special-class energy project (group A), with the task of increasing the power supply for the load of Thanh Hoa province and the North Central region. After successfully energizing, the station was taken over by Thanh Hoa Power Transmission for operation.

Having been familiar with the regular duty of "throughout the holidays" and "throughout Tet", because he was transferred from the Nghi Son 500kV Transformer Station and some units in the industry to work here; but this Tet, young engineer Dang Ngoc Hai and his colleagues feel more proud to be the first generation of employees participating in operating one of the complex components of the country's miracle - 500kV circuit 3.

Thanh Hoa 500kV transformer station organized 3 shifts, 5 shifts on duty 24/7 during Tet, coordinated timely regulation activities with the National Power System Control Center and detected incidents early.

According to the technical staff here, Tet is the busiest and most stressful time for them, because during these days, the power grid parameters are forecast to change significantly, requiring high concentration to closely control and handle them accurately and promptly. 16 officers, employees, and stations are organized to be on duty throughout Tet in 3 shifts, 5 shifts 24/7. In addition to monitoring and coordinating incident handling with the National Power System Control Center (A0); each station technical officer must highly promote initiative to be able to directly handle some situations that require immediate operation and be responsible for operational handling skills.

“Since its stable operation, the station has regularly received 1,000-1,200 MW transmitted from the South to the North. According to A0's regulation, about 200 MW is unloaded to regulate electricity for Thanh Hoa, the rest will be regulated to the North and transferred through the 500kV Pho Noi transformer station,” Mr. Hai shared.

Nong Cong Operation Center is also an important node in the national power transmission grid, responsible for transmitting electricity to supply electricity for production and consumption in Nghi Son Economic Zone and the districts of Trieu Son, Nhu Thanh, Nong Cong, especially Nghi Son Cement Factory, Long Son Cement Factory and part of Thanh Hoa City and neighboring provinces.

Mr. Pham The Phuong, head of the mobile operation team, checks the technical parameters of equipment at Nong Cong Operation Center.

In particular, in the last days of 2024, overcoming many difficulties, the 220kV Nam Sum - Nong Cong Transmission Line Project was officially energized. All electricity imported from the Nam Sum Hydropower Plant cluster (Laos) to Vietnam is also regulated here. From the Nong Cong Operation Center, the Northern Power System Control Center (A1) regulates output in accordance with the demand for load growth in Thanh Hoa and the North.

This year's Tet, like many other Tets, Mr. Pham The Phuong, head of the mobile operation team, Nong Cong Operation Center, and 4 staff members are still on duty in 3 shifts, 24/7 to monitor and respond to operational situations at any time when necessary. Although the job requires sacrificing time with his family, he is always proud that his actions have contributed to bringing complete joy to every family in the early spring of the new year.

Each shift at the center has only 1 supervisory technician. Mr. Pham The Phuong must perform all the steps of the supervision process and operate according to the remote operation model, under the command of the Northern Power System Control Center.

"Tet is the time when we are busier than usual. Although the station operates on a remote operation model, all operating equipment at the station is automated, receiving control commands from the Northern Power System Control Center (A1); however, each shift has only 1 supervisory technician, so we always focus highly, update information promptly, ensure timely coordination with A1 control and report arising problems", Mr. Pham The Phuong shared.

Thanh Hoa Power Transmission has carried out maintenance of the entire transmission grid, handling defects on lines and transformer stations to ensure safe and smooth operation during the Lunar New Year.

According to Deputy Director of Thanh Hoa Power Transmission Nguyen Ngoc Thang, the power transmission grid system through Thanh Hoa is considered the backbone of the entire system. Therefore, determining that it must always operate safely and especially more importantly during Tet, Thanh Hoa Power Transmission has maintained the entire transmission grid, increased inspection and handling of defects on power lines and transformer stations, ensuring that the grid connection diagram of the dispatching levels and the self-consumption sources at the stations always operate well. Information and propaganda work on protecting the high-voltage power grid corridor has also been deployed to minimize acts that cause unsafety to the power grid during Tet, especially activities such as erecting poles, releasing balloons, sky lanterns, exploding fireworks, etc.

“Technical staff at transformer stations and power lines passing through Thanh Hoa maintain a 24/7 working schedule. At the same time, we will increase our on-call duty to handle critical points on the line that are at risk of incidents; prepare adequate supplies, equipment, and spare tools to replace when necessary to ensure a stable transmission rate, especially during peak days during Tet. The unit also pays attention to and implements welfare policies well, and organizes Tet celebrations at the scene to encourage staff and workers to strive to complete their on-call duty during Tet.”

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thang, Deputy Director of Thanh Hoa Power Transmission

In 2024, the total electricity transmission through the 220kV and 500kV transmission lines and transformer stations managed by Thanh Hoa Power Transmission will reach 30.8 billion kWh; the electricity load for Thanh Hoa province alone will reach 7.27 billion kWh, an increase of nearly 11% over the same period. This output is forecast to continue to increase to serve the urgent need for power output and quality, meeting the investment, production and business needs in industrial parks and factories in the North in the coming time.
