On September 18, Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tuan Dao Commune, Son Dong District, Bac Giang Province, said that the Security and Order Protection Team of Tuan Son Village discovered a long crack on the hill during an inspection, threatening landslides and affecting some households at the foot of the hill.

"There are two cracks about 60m long along the hillside, about 35m from Tuan Son Village Cultural House, with a depth of 40cm and a width of 30cm," said Mr. Thuan.

Identifying the crack as having a risk of landslide, directly threatening 30 households with 170 people in the village, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue of Tuan Dao commune mobilized households in the dangerous area to evacuate people and property. Some households moved to the homes of relatives and neighbors; others temporarily took shelter at the Cultural House of Dong Bao Tuan village, about 2km away.

"We have put up warning signs and sent police and militia to monitor the cracks, preventing people from returning home when it is not safe. The commune People's Committee has also reported the incident to the district People's Committee," said Mr. Thuan.

Currently, district authorities are inspecting the scene and researching immediate and long-term solutions.

Mr. Le Duc Thang, Vice Chairman of Son Dong District People's Committee, said that due to the impact of storm No. 3, as of September 18, Son Dong district had suffered losses of more than 1,800 billion VND.

"We are continuing to direct all levels, sectors and localities to evacuate people from areas at risk of landslides and flooding to safe places, ensuring the safety of the dam. At the same time, we are urgently dealing with incidents that have occurred, visiting, encouraging and supporting with food and provisions for households with injured people, damaged houses, unroofed houses, or flooded houses. The work of clearing fallen trees is also being carried out," said Mr. Thang.
