The Provincial People's Committee has just issued Decision 1697/UBND-NLN1 on strengthening the implementation of tasks and solutions to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing in the province.

Accordingly, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested heads of departments, branches, units and localities, based on their assigned tasks, to focus on leading, directing and taking drastic actions to seriously and fully implement the instructions of the Central and local governments. In particular, focusing on completing the handling of the number of fishing vessels with 3 nos (no registration, no fishing license, no inspection) in the area according to regulations; ensuring that 100% of local fishing vessels complete the issuance of fishing licenses, registration, inspection, marking of fishing vessels, installation of VMS equipment, issuance of food safety certificates for fishing vessels, and full updating of fishing vessel data into the national fisheries database in July 2024.
From now until August 2024, the functional forces of the province and localities will carry out a peak period of drastic investigation, verification, and strict handling of violations of IUU fishing, including thoroughly handling 100% of serious violations of disconnecting VMS, dismantling and transporting VMS equipment, and illegal fishing violations in foreign waters from the beginning of 2023 to present.
Every month, units synthesize and report on the results of assigned tasks to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
