Determining the 2 semi-final matches of the National Cup 2023/24

The quarter-final round of the 2023/24 National Cup ended today, May 1. The Cong Viettel was the last team to qualify for the semi-finals. Thus, the two semi-final matches of the tournament are Hanoi FC vs The Cong Viettel and Nam Dinh vs Thanh Hoa.

The final match of the National Cup quarter-finals was a clash between The Cong Viettel and PVF-CAND. Not allowed to use foreign players due to facing opponents from the First Division, coach Nguyen Duc Thang arranged for players such as Dinh Tuan Tai, Tran Danh Trung or Nguyen Huu Thang to take their place.

In the first few minutes, The Cong Viettel faced many difficulties and let the opponent create many opportunities. Thanh Nhan and Xuan Nam continuously threatened Quang The Tai's goal with dangerous shots.

Attacking a lot but not scoring any goals, PVF-CAND immediately paid the price. In the 15th minute, from Truong Tien Anh's cross, Huu Thang rushed in and finished close to the goal to open the score for The Cong - Viettel.

Surprisingly losing, PVF-CAND continued to maintain their coherent and attractive attacking style. They forced The Cong - Viettel to retreat to defense for most of the remaining time of the first half. However, the lack of sharpness in finishing prevented the representative from the First Division from scoring an equalizer. The first 45 minutes passed without any more goals being scored.

In the second half, PVF-CAND quickly scored a beautiful equalizer. From a free kick in front of the penalty area, national player Nguyen Thanh Nhan launched a classy free kick to score a goal for the away team.

The rest of the match took place with an unbelievable scenario. Duc Chien received a red card and left the field. Having to play with one less player, The Cong Viettel unexpectedly scored a goal to raise the score to 2-1 through Tien Anh in the 83rd minute. Just 1 minute later, Hieu Minh equalized 2-2 for PVF-CAND with a shot in the penalty area.

After a 2-2 draw after the official match time, the two teams entered a penalty shootout full of luck. Huu Nam from PVF-CAND missed the fourth kick, and the team accepted a 3-5 defeat on penalties. The Cong Viettel was the last team to enter the semi-finals of the 2023/2024 National Cup.
