The past 2 weeks have been the happiest time for the family of Mr. Phan Van Bo, a poor household with housing difficulties in Phu Hiep hamlet (Phu Huu commune), when the new house was completed and put into use. Mr. Bo said that for nearly ten years, his family had lived in a dilapidated house. When the locality implemented the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the area, his family was supported with 60 million VND to build a new house, with an area of over 90 square meters, tiled floor, iron frame, corrugated iron roof and walls... This is one of 2 houses in Phu Huu commune selected by the Steering Committee for Elimination of Temporary and Dilapidated Houses of An Phu district from the support of officials, civil servants and workers of the An Giang provincial Procuracy.
Not only was his family supported financially, they also received support from the Party Committee, the government, and local volunteer groups for construction work. Up to now, the house has been basically completed and put into use. “Having a new house, my family feels secure in living, especially during the rainy and stormy season. My family thanks the Party, the State, and the local government for their support and promises to try to preserve it and strive to escape poverty,” Mr. Bo shared.
Sharing the same joy as Mr. Bo's family, many other families in Phu Huu commune who are eligible for support from the Joint Hands to Eliminate Temporary and Dilapidated Houses Program are also busy starting construction and waiting for completion. Typically, the house of Mr. Bui Van No's family (residing in Phu Hiep hamlet) is about to be completed. The house has an area of nearly 60 square meters, tiled floor, wooden frame, corrugated iron roof and walls, with a total value of over 70 million VND. This has been the family's long-standing dream, and now it has become a reality...
Groundbreaking ceremony for the project to remove temporary and dilapidated houses in Phu Huu commune
Sharing about the implementation of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in Phu Huu commune, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phu Huu commune Nguyen Van Hieu said: “To ensure the right subjects, the locality has established a steering committee, conducting a review of each household to soon complete housing according to the program. The locality will continue to mobilize the participation of the entire political system, establish 2 volunteer groups, with 55 members ready to support and help in the process of building houses; strengthen urging, checking, and supervising the construction to ensure the area, structure, quality of housing projects and progress according to the set plan”…
Phu Huu is a border commune with many socio-economic difficulties. Through the review according to Decision 55/QD-BXD, dated January 20, 2025 of the Ministry of Construction on the criteria for temporary houses and dilapidated houses, the whole commune has 79 households meeting the prescribed conditions (59 newly built houses, 20 repaired houses). As a result, the commune has completed the construction of 10 new houses, repaired 1 house and 9 houses are about to be completed, ensuring 100% progress according to the plan. In the second quarter of 2025, the locality will continue to mobilize the construction of 40 new houses and repair the remaining 19 houses.
To achieve the goals, with many good and effective ways, in addition to the above support sources, the locality has promoted social resources, mobilized organizations and individuals inside and outside the area, together with the locality to join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. As a result, the locality has mobilized 150 million VND in cash to support the construction of 50 new houses, each house worth 3 million VND; mobilized 7 new houses for poor households, with a total amount of 420 million VND and the district mobilized the allocation of 2 houses from the support source of the Provincial People's Procuracy, with an amount of 120 million VND..., contributing to An Phu district to complete the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the district according to the set plan.
Supporting the construction and repair of houses for the poor and policy families is a meaningful humanitarian work, demonstrating the concern and care of the Party, State and local authorities for social security work. Each new house completed means that a poor household will have a stable place to live, thereby feeling secure in working and producing, "settling down and having a career", rising out of poverty, contributing to the development of the local economy and society.
