These projects, once completed, will bring a special highlight to Hau Giang urban area. So after nearly 20 years of formation and development, as of mid-September 2023, Hau Giang has 18 classified urban areas, including 1 type II urban area (Vi Thanh City), 2 type III urban areas (Nga Bay City, Long My Town), 15 type V urban areas (4 type V urban areas are commune administrative units that have not been upgraded to towns) with an urbanization rate of over 29.75%.

According to Mr. Dong Van Thanh, Hau Giang urban area has developed quite synchronously, gradually meeting the criteria of central and regional urban areas. Urban infrastructure is increasingly focused on, Hau Giang real estate market continues to flourish. Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee sets a target of striving for the urbanization rate in the area to reach more than 32% by 2025; building Chau Thanh District, Chau Thanh A District in the direction of urban - industrial development; investing in Vi Thanh City, Nga Bay City, Long My Town to be worthy of being the core growth cities of the province; at the same time implementing strategic and key projects with spillover effects to support the development of other urban areas.

"Resolution 17 affirms the harmonious development between urban and rural areas, environmental protection, ecological balance maintenance and climate change response. The province continues to expand urban areas, develop large-scale urban real estate, associated with the urban tourism and resort network integrating economic sectors. By 2030, Hau Giang strives to have 19 classified urban areas, including 1 city (type II urban area), 1 city and 1 town (type III urban area), 4 type IV urban areas, 12 type V urban areas...", Mr. Tran Van Huyen informed.
