This extremely good fruit helps lower high blood pressure and prevent strokes in the elderly.

New research, just published in the scientific journal Nutrients , has found a fruit that may help reduce some of the risks associated with aging, by lowering systolic blood pressure and key markers of inflammation in people over 55 .

Pomegranates are known for their rich polyphenol content, especially punicalagin, a powerful active ingredient unique to pomegranates. Thanks to these compounds, pomegranates have impressive antioxidant activity, surpassing many other polyphenol-rich foods.

Although pomegranate extract has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, heart-protective, and overall metabolic-improving effects, this study focused specifically on adults between the ages of 55 and 70.

To explore whether pomegranate extract could help reduce some of the age-related risks in people over 55, scientists from Manchester Metropolitan University, in collaboration with experts at the University of Surrey and the Queen's Institute for Medical Research, University of Edinburgh (UK), conducted a study involving 86 participants, with an average age of 55, mostly women, of moderate weight.

Most participants had slightly elevated systolic blood pressure, averaging 128 mmHg. Results found that those who consumed the pomegranate extract had reduced several markers of inflammation compared to the placebo group.

Notably, pomegranate extract consumption reduced systolic blood pressure, especially in those with elevated baseline readings. The average reduction was 5.2 mmHg. The next content of this article will be on the health page on April 11 .

Discovery of a vitamin that is a 'savior' for diabetics

One of the primary concerns in diabetic patients is cardiovascular complications.

Researchers at the University Hospital Trust of Verona (Italy) investigated the link between vitamin C levels, diet and cardiovascular disease in patients with type 2 diabetes.

They conducted a study of 200 diabetic patients over a period of 6 months.

Up to 12.2% of patients have severe vitamin C deficiency.

The results found that people with cardiovascular complications had significantly lower vitamin C levels than those without complications. This shows that the higher the vitamin C level, the lower the rate of cardiovascular disease . The next content of this article will be on the health page on April 11 .

Warm Lemon Water: Real Benefits and the Hype

Is warm lemon water, a drink praised by many celebrities on social media, really a 'miracle cure' for weight loss, immune system enhancement and effective hydration?

It’s not hard to come across videos sharing the “miraculous” health benefits of warm lemon water. Social media influencers regularly promote the drink as a natural solution to a range of health problems, from weight loss to improved digestion and beautiful skin .

But is there any solid scientific evidence to back up these benefits? Nutritionists have taken a more cautious view.

Rehydration. One of the most obvious benefits of warm lemon water is its ability to hydrate the body. Professor Emily Ho, a renowned nutritionist and Director of the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University (USA), emphasizes the essential role of providing enough water for basic functions such as temperature regulation, joint lubrication, digestion support and waste elimination. Warm lemon water easily encourages adequate water intake, especially in the morning. However, Dr. Joan Salge Blake (Boston University, USA) pointed out that filtered water, herbal tea... also bring equivalent rehydration effects.

Promote digestion. In terms of the impact on the digestive system, not only warm lemon water but also fluids in general play an important role. Research shows that drinking enough water helps reduce the risk of constipation. Lemon juice can stimulate the production of stomach acid, supporting digestion to a certain extent. Dr. Ho also mentioned the possibility that citric acid in lemons is beneficial for older people who tend to have reduced stomach acid secretion, but more evidence is needed to confirm.
