Vietnamese tennis player causes surprise at Singapore international badminton tournament
After successfully defeating Taiwanese tennis player Lin Sih-yun (Taiwan, world rank 92) in the quarterfinals, Vu Thi Trang (world rank 129) created another surprise when she defeated second seed Chaiwan Lalinrat (Thailand, world rank 55) in the quarterfinals of the Singapore international badminton tournament taking place today (February 22).
Vu Thi Trang defeated No. 2 seed Chaiwan Lalinrat, entering the semi-finals of the Singapore International Badminton Tournament
Few people believed in the victory of 32-year-old Vu Thi Trang when she faced a "tough" opponent like Chaiwan Lalinrat, the current SEA Games runner-up. At the 32nd SEA Games in 2023, Chaiwan Lalinrat defeated Vu Thi Trang in the quarterfinals and then advanced to the finals. However, the "wind changed direction" when the two players met again this time in Singapore.
The match between Vu Thi Trang and Chaiwan Lalinrat was extremely intense. The Thai player won 21/17 in the first set, but Vu Thi Trang played explosively with 2 consecutive wins with scores of 21/18, 21/16 to complete the comeback to win 2-1. In this match, Nguyen Tien Minh continued to play the role of coach, effectively supporting his wife Vu Thi Trang to win.
Defeating No. 2 seed Chaiwan Lalinrat helped Vu Thi Trang win a ticket to the semi-finals of the women's singles event of the Singapore International Badminton Tournament. This tournament has a rather tight schedule as the player from Bac Giang has to compete in the semi-finals today, facing Unnati Hooda (India, ranked 77th in the world). Hopefully, the Vietnamese female player will recover in time to continue to "fly high" in the Singapore International Badminton Tournament.
