VinUni has the students that Ivy Leagues wish they had.

The evidence is the exceptional achievements of the first graduating class of VinUni when up to 25% of the new graduates were accepted for postgraduate training by prestigious universities such as Harvard, Cornell, Pennsylvania. 32% of the new graduates were offered jobs by leading global corporations such as McKinsey, Google, Bosch, IBM, Boston Consulting Group, National Australia Bank, ... even before graduation.

Professor Max J. Pfeffer (Cornell University) spoke at the first graduation ceremony of VinUni University.

VinUni students are the leaders of the future

- How do you feel when witnessing the maturity of VinUni students?

I had a great experience with VinUni students. Last year, Cornell received 4 exchange students from VinUni, and there are also some students coming to Cornell in August 2023 under the exchange program. They are really excellent young people, I think they are not only VinUni students but also excellent representatives of Vietnam. They are very smart, and obviously they have prepared very well before coming to Cornell because they asked our lecturers very good questions.

I have known VinUni students since they were young people just out of high school, fresh, innocent, and extremely excited about the wide open world of university before their eyes. But now they are grown-up citizens, founding startups, developing applications… They do all the things that real adults do. It is wonderful because I get to witness all that maturity.

- Can you name any VinUni student who suddenly comes to mind at this moment?

I was impressed by Vicky Giap (Giap Vu Nam Duong), one of the VinUni students who immediately worked with startup clubs and supported student startups upon arriving at Cornell. Her project was listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NASDAQ Stock Exchange in Times Square), thanks to which Giap had the opportunity to ring the bell on the stock exchange. For me, that was great! Vicky Giap is a true shining star of VinUni.

At the Graduation Ceremony on the morning of June 29, Professor Max J. Pfeffer acknowledged the unexpected achievements of the students and VinUni on the path to becoming an elite, world-class university in Vietnam.

- To be frank, do the VinUni students you just mentioned have the ability to independently gain admission to Cornell or any Ivy League school, Professor?

- Absolutely. People like Vicky Giap have the qualities to be a good student, two of which are being very smart and daring to think and do. In addition, they are calm and confident. The aspects I just mentioned are all the qualities that Cornell and the Ivy schools want to find in a student. Cornell is aiming to train students to become leaders of the future, and Vicky is the leader of the future.

Reaching the "sweet fruit"

- To have "good students" you must have "good teachers". At VinUni, what is your impression of the teaching staff?

What I am most impressed with about VinUni faculty is their dedication to the university and their dedication to students. Perhaps that is the most important thing for the development of a university. In 2023, a number of VinUni faculty were sent to Cornell University to learn Cornell's teaching methods. My colleagues and I worked directly with many of them. At the end of the study, we spent a week discussing in depth, through which we realized that they were good colleagues.

I was impressed by the questions they wanted to explore, a clear testament to the dedication of VinUni faculty. I was also impressed by the level of engagement they had with everyone at Cornell, the clarity with which they articulated VinUni’s needs and what they were trying to learn.

Representatives of Vingroup Corporation signed a strategic cooperation agreement with representatives of Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania (USA).

- As someone who supports VinUni in building an excellent academic environment, do you think you are close to achieving your goals?

Yes, I think we are getting closer to the goals that both sides initially set. We have had, are having, and will continue to have a good cooperative relationship. Both VinUni and Cornell agree to continue to maintain and develop the relationship. From there, we will have additional training programs and research programs to enhance the stature of VinUni and Cornell.

- Thank you Professor Max J. Pfeffer!

Professor Max J. Pfeffer has been the Academic Director of the Cornell-VinUniversity Project since September 2021. Prior to that, he spent 28 years at Cornell University, where he was an outstanding leader in reshaping the Cornell Life Sciences Institute (CALS), and he remains a professor emeritus there.

Journey from VinUni to Cornell University

- One advantage of the training program at VinUni is the integrated Bachelor's - Master's program, in cooperation with Cornell University. According to you, how should students prepare to have the best fit?

Professor Max J. Pfeffer: Cornell currently has an MBA student from VinUni, studying the 3+2 integrated bachelor's program (studying 3 years of bachelor's at VinUni and 2 years of master's at Cornell). It is important that students determine their goals early so that they can plan their studies appropriately as soon as possible. Credits at VinUni are recognized by Cornell, the more credits you accumulate at VinUni, the faster you can study for a master's degree at Cornell.

- With the 3+2 integrated bachelor's program, does Cornell limit the number of VinUni students it accepts?

Professor Max J. Pfeffer: Currently, yes. However, in the future, the number may increase if there are many students interested in the program and you make a great effort to meet the admission criteria. The application review process is very strict, so to be able to apply for this program, you must be an excellent student. Students who meet the criteria will be admitted to the program and after completing their bachelor's degree at VinUni with distinction, they will be accepted to study for a master's degree at Cornell.
