On April 16, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Tim Cook, CEO of Apple of the US - one of the largest technology companies in the world and the largest foreign investor in Vietnam (over 16 billion USD). This is the first time Mr. Tim Cook has visited Vietnam.
There is still a lot of room for cooperation.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated Apple's successes globally and in Vietnam, as well as the important contributions of Apple and its partners to Vietnam's development, creating jobs for people, and bringing Vietnam deeper into Apple's global supply chain.
Vietnam has a large domestic consumer market with a population of 100 million people, many Vietnamese people are very fond of and familiar with Apple products. Vietnam also participates in 17 bilateral and multilateral FTAs with about 60 major economies in the world. Therefore, according to the Prime Minister, there is still a lot of room for cooperation between Vietnam and Apple. The Prime Minister said that Vietnam is ready to coordinate with Apple to establish a working group to support Apple in investing and expanding its operations in Vietnam quickly, strongly and sustainably, contributing to promoting and concretizing the new framework of relations between the two countries on the basis of "harmonious benefits and shared risks".
The Prime Minister suggested that Apple focus on investment, development, and business expansion, identifying Vietnam as a stronghold of Apple globally; encouraging suppliers in Apple's supply chain to expand their investment and business in Vietnam, bringing qualified Vietnamese enterprises deeper into Apple's value chain; increasing support and consultation for Vietnam to perfect its legal system, policy mechanisms for the development of science, technology, and innovation; promoting cooperation and association with innovation centers and software parks in Vietnam, especially the National Innovation Center; support Vietnam in training human resources, especially in the program of training 100,000 high-quality engineers, including 50,000 high-quality engineers in the semiconductor industry... Acknowledging Apple's proposals to promote access to clean energy for Apple manufacturers in Vietnam, the Prime Minister said that the Government has approved the VIII Power Plan and issued a Plan to implement the VIII Power Plan in the direction of strongly developing renewable energy, clean energy, researching and building a direct electricity trading mechanism, developing "self-produced and self-consumed" rooftop electricity...
Regarding cultural cooperation, the Prime Minister said that Vietnam wishes to internationalize Vietnamese cultural identity and quintessence and nationalize world cultural values and quintessence, and asked Apple to actively support in this field.

Commitment to increase purchase of spare parts
Apple CEO Tim Cook said he is having a wonderful visit and working in Vietnam and highly appreciated the Prime Minister's sharing about Vietnam's major orientations and development goals.
Affirming that Apple values the participation of Vietnamese application developers in Apple products around the world, Mr. Tim Cook announced that Apple has created more than 200,000 jobs in Vietnam. The company has also spent about VND400,000 billion for about 150 suppliers in Vietnam since 2019. Apple's leaders also expressed their appreciation for the support and assistance of the Prime Minister and ministries and branches for the group; ready to work with the Vietnamese working group to promote high-quality cooperation and investment activities in the coming time. Apple's CEO said that Apple is committed to purchasing more components produced by partners in Vietnam, supporting Vietnam in the field of innovation; increasing spending for suppliers in Vietnam; expanding vocational training programs for people with disabilities to promote integration, bringing greater opportunities for them in the supply chain.
Mr. Tim Cook said that with the contribution of Apple Music, he is looking forward to promoting Vietnamese culture, including music and cinema, to the world, contributing to the international understanding of the country, people, spirit and culture of Vietnam.
More than 5,000 authorized Apple stores in Vietnam
Apple Vietnam Co., Ltd. is the official importer of Apple products in Vietnam with over 40 distribution partners in Vietnam and over 5,000 Apple-authorized stores. In 2023, Apple opened the Apple Online Store and Apple Pay service with Vietnamese banking partners. According to Mr. Tim Cook, Apple does not have a direct manufacturing plant in Vietnam but through more than 70 factories of original equipment manufacturing partners with more than 200,000 employees, specializes in manufacturing electronic components (such as electrical boards, cameras, screens, etc.) and assembling finished products for Apple.
