Dr. Nguyen Thanh Quyen, Head of the Department of Tropical Diseases, said that compared to previous weeks, the number of cases of hand, foot and mouth disease is increasing. The reason is that we are entering the cycle of hand, foot and mouth disease (usually in April, May, June, September, October, November, December of the year).

Therefore, Dr. Quyen recommends that families with young children should pay attention to protecting their children to prevent hand, foot and mouth disease. Especially, during the upcoming April 30 and May 1 holidays, many families will bring their children back to their hometowns, travel, and meet many people, so it is predicted that the number of cases of hand, foot and mouth disease after the holidays will increase further.

Children showing symptoms of hand, foot and mouth disease such as fever, headache, loss of appetite, sore throat, vomiting, blisters on the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, between the fingers, toes, groin, buttocks, genitals, abdomen, and back should be isolated and taken to the hospital for timely examination and treatment.

There is currently no vaccine to prevent hand, foot and mouth disease and no specific treatment. Therefore, proactively preventing the disease by teaching children to practice good personal hygiene, eating and drinking boiled water, disinfecting toys and shared items, and not letting children come into contact with infected children is the best way to prevent hand, foot and mouth disease.

According to statistics from the Provincial Center for Disease Control, from the beginning of 2025 to now, the whole province has recorded nearly 1,100 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, an increase of nearly 600 cases compared to the same period last year.
