Vietnam always values and wishes to continuously strengthen the comprehensive friendship and cooperation with Cambodia.

On December 11 at the Presidential Palace, President Vo Van Thuong cordially received Samdech Thipadei, Prime Minister Hun Manet, who came to pay a visit on the occasion of an official visit to Vietnam.

Welcoming and expressing his pleasure to meet Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister Hun Manet again during his official visit to Vietnam, President Vo Van Thuong congratulated Cambodia on successfully organizing the Extraordinary Congress of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and Prime Minister Hun Manet being elected Vice President of the CPP.

President Vo Van Thuong affirmed that Vietnam always supports Cambodia's national construction and development and believes that under the wise reign of King Norodom Sihamoni, the leadership of the Senate, the National Assembly and the Royal Government headed by Prime Minister Hun Manet, the Cambodian people will continue to gain new achievements in national construction and development, helping to continuously enhance Cambodia's role and position in the international arena; affirming that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to continuously strengthen the friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Cambodia.

Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his joy at his first official visit to Vietnam in his new position and his first visit to an ASEAN country; congratulated the important achievements that the Party, State and people of Vietnam have achieved in recent times; affirmed that the visit aims to promote the relationship of "good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability" between the two countries to continue to develop deeply and firmly.

The Cambodian Prime Minister also respectfully conveyed King Norodom Sihamoni's regards to President Vo Van Thuong; affirming that on the basis of important cooperation achievements between the two countries, the new Cambodian Government will continue to make efforts to promote deeper and broader development of bilateral relations.

The two sides emphasized that the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship is special, with a historical tradition of solidarity, closeness and mutual support during the previous struggle for independence, as well as in the cause of national construction and development today.

The two sides expressed satisfaction with the positive development of bilateral relations in recent times; highly appreciated the two sides maintaining regular high-level contacts and exchanges on all channels and levels; effectively promoting bilateral cooperation mechanisms; and bringing the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries in all fields to increasingly strong and comprehensive development.

The two leaders agreed to further promote cooperation in politics, defense-security, economy-trade, science-technology, agriculture, tourism, and people-to-people exchange; continue to strengthen cooperation in education and training and improve the quality of human resources; coordinate to strengthen propaganda and education work for the people of the two countries, especially the younger generation, about the close historical tradition and achievements of the Vietnam-Cambodia comprehensive friendship and cooperation.

On this occasion, the President thanked and requested the Cambodian side to continue to pay attention to and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Cambodia to do business, live and integrate into the local community; to have legal documents resolved more and more conveniently; and emphasized that the two countries need to continue to make efforts to promote the demarcation and marker planting of the remaining 16% of the land border in order to continue building a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and development between the two countries.

The President reiterated his invitation to King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk to soon visit Vietnam, and conveyed his regards and best wishes for good health to the King, Queen Mother and senior leaders of Cambodia.
