Vietnam welcomes more than 16,500 babies born during Tet At Ty

During the Lunar New Year, medical facilities successfully delivered and performed cesarean sections to welcome 16,518 newborns; 200,084 patients were cured and discharged from hospital; and no outbreaks or clusters of dangerous infectious diseases were recorded in the community.


On February 2, information from the Ministry of Health said that during the Lunar New Year 2025, medical examination and treatment facilities must ensure 4 levels of on-call duty including: leadership duty, hotline information processing, professional duty and administrative duty, logistics, security duty, and self-defense at the facility; well organize emergency care, medical examination and treatment for patients; reserve enough medicine, blood, infusion fluid and necessary means and equipment for emergency care.

During the period from January 25 to February 2 (ie December 26 to the 5th day of the Lunar New Year 2025), hospitals examined and provided emergency care to 549,997 patients; 194,985 patients were hospitalized and treated as inpatients; 18,929 surgeries were performed (including 3,301 emergency surgeries due to accidents).

Medical facilities have successfully delivered and performed cesarean sections to welcome 16,518 babies; the number of patients who have been cured and discharged from hospital is 200,084.

As of the morning of February 2, the total number of patients being treated at medical facilities was 131,615.

According to the Ministry of Health, in the past 24 hours (from 7:00 a.m. on February 1 to 7:00 a.m. on February 2), the country recorded 3,783 visits to hospitals for suspected traffic-related accidents, bringing the total number of visits and emergency care related to traffic accidents to 24,122; 9,818 patients suspected of being involved in traffic accidents had to be hospitalized for inpatient treatment and monitoring; 2,538 people were transferred to other hospitals.

The total number of suspected deaths due to traffic accidents is 160 people, of which 66 people died before reaching medical facilities, 39 people died at medical facilities and 55 people were expected to die.

The number of suspected traffic accident patients being treated at medical facilities as of the morning of February 2 is 5,124.

Regarding accidents caused by firecrackers, weapons, and explosives, during the Tet holiday, 481 cases of examination and emergency treatment due to firecrackers and fireworks; 48 cases of examination and emergency treatment due to accidents caused by homemade weapons and explosives; no deaths were recorded.

Compared to the same period of the 2024 Lunar New Year, the number of emergency cases suspected of being caused by traffic accidents decreased by 11%, the number of deaths suspected of being caused by traffic accidents decreased by 28.9%; the number of emergency cases suspected of being caused by firecrackers and fireworks decreased by 24.2%; the number of emergency cases suspected of being caused by homemade weapons and explosives decreased by 50.5%.

Also during the Tet holiday, medical facilities recorded 711 people coming to the emergency room due to digestive disorders, poisoning from homemade food, and alcohol intoxication, of which 444 people had to be hospitalized for monitoring and treatment; no deaths were recorded.

Regarding the food poisoning situation, the Ministry of Health said that according to reports and results of food safety monitoring and food poisoning prevention and control by units nationwide, from January 25 to 11:00 a.m. on February 2, there were no recorded cases of mass food poisoning, only a few isolated cases of suspected food poisoning were recorded and reported to the system of treatment facilities nationwide.

The Ministry of Health has directed the strengthening of inter-sectoral inspection of food safety, focusing on controlling production and import hubs, wholesale markets, trade centers, supermarkets, traditional markets, slaughterhouses, and food transportation facilities; strictly controlling smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, goods that do not ensure quality, are expired, or have unknown origins.

In ensuring drug supply, medical facilities have prepared enough drugs for medical examination, treatment and disease prevention and control. As of 9:00 a.m. on February 2, the Ministry of Health has not received any reports of drug shortages, drug price increases and drug quality for medical examination and treatment for the people.

Regarding the epidemic situation, according to reports from the Institutes of Hygiene and Epidemiology, Pasteur Institute, and Centers for Disease Control/International Health Quarantine of provinces and cities, from 12:00 on January 25 to February 2, the whole country recorded 403 cases of dengue fever, with no deaths; hand, foot and mouth disease recorded 155 cases, with no deaths; measles recorded 1,562 cases of rash fever suspected of measles, with no deaths; whooping cough had 1 additional case recorded from 8 days earlier; diphtheria has not recorded any cases.

The units have not yet recorded any outbreaks or clusters of dangerous infectious diseases spreading in the community.
