At around 9am the same day, PTH (10 years old) and his younger brother PVK (4 years old), living in Phuc Thanh commune, went with their mother to the field to weed rice. There, the two children discovered a bottle of pesticide, mistook it for soft drink and drank it. Afterwards, both children showed signs of vomiting, convulsions, and pale faces.

Relatives quickly took the children to Yen Thanh District General Hospital for emergency treatment. After first aid, baby H. regained consciousness, while baby K. remained in a coma. The two children were then transferred to Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital for further treatment.
