Ms. Phan Thi Ha, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ngoc Lac district, Thanh Hoa province, said that after 4 years of experimental planting in the district, up to now, Ho Guom - Song Am High-Tech Agriculture Company Limited under Ho Guom Group is harvesting 27 hectares of seedless lychee.
" Last year, some trees produced fruit and were exported to foreign markets. This year, the company continues to harvest large quantities to sell to the domestic market, " said Ms. Ha.
Output 15-20 tons
Sharing more, Mr. Nguyen Duy Ninh, General Director of Ho Guom Group Joint Stock Company, said that this lychee variety was bred by the company in cooperation with the Vietnam Genetics Institute and cultivated using organic methods at Ho Guom - Song Am farm.
"The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has recognized the variety and this is the only place in Vietnam that has successfully grown seedless lychee on a large scale. The company chose Ngoc Lac, Thanh Hoa to grow this variety because the local soil and climate are suitable ," said Mr. Ninh.
According to the group's leader, the company's seedless lychee variety has been granted product protection, is seedless, has low sugar content and has a refreshing taste, with juicy, crispy, white flesh. For seedless lychee trees, the company applies drip irrigation technology to save time, care and fertilizer, ensuring good plant growth and development.

This year, Ho Guom Group plans to harvest about 15-20 tons of seedless lychee, distributed in the domestic market and for export. Currently, the company has customers in Japan and is negotiating with other markets such as Singapore, Canada...
" The listed retail price ranges from 250,000 to 320,000 VND/kg, depending on the packaging, quantity and size of the lychee. Specifically, the company is distributing boxes such as special boxes priced at 800,000 VND/box (only 200 boxes are produced), 2 kg boxes priced at 550,000 VND/box, 1 kg boxes priced at 280,000 VND/box and 500 gram boxes priced at 148,000 VND/box ," said a company representative.
Regarding distribution to the domestic market, this representative said that the company cooperates with many direct and online sales channels such as Grab, supermarkets, stores... to widely distribute products to customers.
Currently, the company has incubated more than 20,000 seedless lychee trees to graft precious lychee varieties, and plans to continue to expand in the coming years, providing consumers with high-quality agricultural products and exporting them to countries around the world.
Bac Giang is still researching
Previously, in 2019, Bac Giang also brought seedless lychee varieties to plant in Tan Son commune (Luc Ngan district) with more than 500 trees. After more than 2 years of planting, this year some lychee trees have flowered and fruited.
As a result, the lychee fruit is large, has beautiful color, thick flesh and a very characteristic sweet and crunchy taste. In particular, the seedless fruit when grown purely still has some very small, flat seeds due to cross-pollination. In the 2022 lychee crop, the seedless lychee has produced fruit and achieved good quality.

Mr. Tang Van Huy, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Luc Ngan district, said that in 2022, only a few trees bore fruit but the yield was not high. The appearance and flavor were assessed as not being equal to the original Luc Ngan lychee.
Mr. Huy emphasized that it is not yet possible to confirm that Bac Giang has succeeded in creating a seedless lychee variety. “ Growing fruit trees takes many years. With lychee trees, it takes 6-7 years to accurately assess the quality. We are only at the experimental model level, and experiments can be successful or fail, ” Mr. Huy shared.
On June 8, Mr. Le Ba Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bac Giang, said that this year the unit is continuing to research and expand this lychee variety in the province and people continue to graft buds to improve this seedless lychee variety.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Giang province, in 2023, the total area of lychee in the province will be 29,700 hectares, an increase of 1,400 hectares compared to 2022. The output is estimated at more than 180,000 tons, of which domestic consumption is about 81,000 tons (accounting for 45%), the rest is for export.
The main export markets of Bac Giang lychee include China, EU, USA, Australia, Japan, Korea, some Southeast Asian countries and some countries in the Middle East...
