Normal blood pressure will fluctuate around 120/80 mmHg. If blood pressure drops below 90/60 mmHg, it is called low blood pressure. Low blood pressure can be just as harmful to health as high blood pressure, according to the health website Verywell Health (USA).

Diabetes can make low blood pressure symptoms worse.

Common symptoms of low blood pressure include headaches, dizziness, fatigue, limp limbs, pale skin, nausea, and even shock and death. These symptoms are even more worrisome if the patient also has type 2 diabetes.

Therefore, diabetic patients need to pay close attention to low blood pressure. Some of the following health problems of diabetes can make low blood pressure worse.

Dehydration

When you have diabetes, your body will excrete excess glucose from your blood through your urine. To do this, your body needs water. Therefore, diabetics can easily become dehydrated.

Dehydration reduces the amount of fluid in the body and causes the pressure inside the blood vessels to drop, leading to low blood pressure. In diabetics, dehydration can also be a symptom of a more serious condition called ketoacidosis, which occurs when the body produces too much acid in the blood.

Ketoacidosis is a dangerous complication of diabetes. Common symptoms of ketoacidosis include fatigue, thirst, cramps, frequent urination, dry mouth, and coma.

Autonomic neuropathy

People with long-term diabetes can develop peripheral nerve damage, leading to autonomic neuropathy and an increased risk of blood pressure problems. When nerves are damaged, they cannot effectively send signals to the blood vessels so that they can constrict, thereby helping to maintain appropriate blood pressure.

For people with diabetes, standing for a long time can easily cause low blood pressure with symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, even sudden collapse and injury.

To reduce the risk of dangerously low blood pressure, people with diabetes should avoid eating too big meals. Because when you eat too much, blood will rush to the stomach to focus on digesting food and reduce blood pressure in other parts of the body. In addition, they also need to drink plenty of water, avoid eating sweets, alcohol and not stand for too long, according to Verywell Health .
