On October 18, the Office of the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province said that Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang had just signed a document to send to the Ministry of Transport and the Vietnam Road Administration regarding the upgrading and expansion of National Highway 19C, the section passing through the area.
National Highway 19C through Binh Dinh is narrow and does not meet local development needs.
In particular, the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province requested the Ministry of Transport and the Vietnam Road Administration to consider including it in the medium-term public investment portfolio plan for the period 2026 - 2030, to invest in upgrading National Highway 19C through Binh Dinh according to the approved plan with an estimated investment cost of about 540 billion VND.
Mr. Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang said that in recent years, with the support of the Ministry of Transport and the Vietnam Road Administration, the transport infrastructure network in Binh Dinh province has been gradually implemented according to the plan and has achieved remarkable results. The development of transport infrastructure has contributed significantly to creating momentum to promote socio-economic development, ensuring security and defense of the province and the entire Central Highlands region.
National Highway 19C was upgraded from a provincial road (formerly DT638) in 2014. After 10 years of being converted into a national highway, the route has not been upgraded yet. The basic condition of the route is only level VI, the roadbed width is about 6.5m, the road surface is from 3.5m - 5.5m, the bridges and culverts on the route are mostly only able to operate with H13 load capacity.
Furthermore, in order to serve the socio-economic development of the locality, along National Highway 19C, the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province has been prioritizing the investment in the construction and development of industrial parks and clusters. In particular, the section through Tuy Phuoc district has Phuoc An Industrial Park in operation and the province is continuing to plan and invest in the construction of industrial parks: Tan Hoang Giang, Binh An, Quy Hoi. The section through Van Canh district has Becamex VSIP Binh Dinh Industrial, Urban and Service Park gradually taking shape, planning to invest in the construction of Van Canh Industrial Park.
In addition, according to the needs of socio-economic development, traffic volume on National Highway 19C is increasing, especially the transportation of raw materials for industrial clusters and construction material mines along the route.
"In particular, the North-South Expressway is about to be built. National Highway 19C, as a connecting route to the expressway, will see a sharp increase in traffic volume after 2025 when the North-South Expressway is put into operation. Therefore, the current scale will not meet traffic demand, causing congestion and a high risk of traffic accidents," Mr. Hoang shared.
Therefore, according to the leader of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, the expansion and upgrading of National Highway 19C is extremely urgent. It helps traffic on the route to be safe and convenient, meeting current and future transportation needs, gradually completing the road traffic network according to the planning, creating momentum for socio-economic development of Binh Dinh province and the Central Highlands region.
