Forever the heroic spirit of Dien Bien

On this day 70 years ago, at 5:30 p.m. on May 7, 1954, the "Determination to Fight - Determination to Win" flag of the Vietnam People's Army flew on the roof of General De Castries' bunker, signaling the complete victory of the Dien Bien Phu campaign, ending the nine-year resistance war against the French colonialists, a long, arduous and heroic struggle of our people.

“Nine years to build a Dien Bien/ Create a red wreath, create a golden history” - two verses of poet To Huu still shine forever with time, showing the contemporary stature of the Dien Bien Phu victory - a brilliant “golden history” in the history of the struggle to protect the independence of our nation. The Dien Bien Phu victory is an immortal heroic epic originating from the glorious historical tradition of our nation, from the wise and talented leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the great President Ho Chi Minh, from the strength of the great national unity bloc and the determination to fight for independence and freedom of our army and people.

Following the Dien Bien Phu victory in 1954, our people continued to write a brilliant epic in the Ho Chi Minh era, achieving glorious feats: “Hanoi - Dien Bien Phu in the air” in 1972; Ho Chi Minh Campaign in 1975, completely liberating the South, unifying the country, leading the whole country to socialism; firmly protecting the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Fatherland. Previous generations of Vietnamese people did not accept being slaves, promoted revolutionary heroism to the highest extent, bravery, creativity, defeated all invaders, gloriously completing the cause of national liberation. Today's generations are determined to promote the spirit of Dien Bien Phu victory, dare to think, dare to do, be dynamic and creative in the cause of innovation, creating miracles in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

The 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory is an opportunity for us to be more proud of the glorious Communist Party of Vietnam, the great President Ho Chi Minh, and to remember General Vo Nguyen Giap - the Commander-in-Chief of the Vietnam People's Army, who directly commanded the Dien Bien Phu campaign. The generation who directly fought and the generation who are enjoying the fruits of the Dien Bien Phu victory all fully feel the red color of the victory flag shining from every corner of the country and feel proud from the depths of their hearts about a heroic Vietnam. In the echoes of the heroic victory song, we respectfully bow to express our deep gratitude to the heroic martyrs, heroic Vietnamese mothers, wounded and sick soldiers, and all compatriots and soldiers nationwide who fought bravely and sacrificed their blood for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for the happiness of the people. Every Thai Binh citizen is even more proud of the worthy contributions of the army and people of the province in the resistance war against French colonialism and the Dien Bien Phu campaign, contributing to "bringing glory to the nation and the race", adding more color to the national flag and the glorious, resilient, indomitable, patriotic and revolutionary tradition of the homeland.

We look at the Dien Bien Phu victory 70 years ago to see that it was the burning desire for independence and the spirit of solidarity, unity, faith, self-reliance, the desire to rise up strongly, the determination to overcome difficulties and challenges, and make good use of opportunities that were the source of strength for our nation to defeat all enemies. That victory that "resounded throughout the five continents and shook the world" will forever be a brilliant milestone in history and the pride of the Vietnamese people, a spiritual strength, a source of great encouragement and motivation, and at the same time left many valuable lessons for our entire Party, people, and army in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland today and tomorrow. More than ever, the revolutionary offensive spirit, the will of self-reliance, self-strengthening, determination to fight and win of our army and people in the Dien Bien Phu campaign need to be highly promoted in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, making Vietnam "more dignified and more beautiful" as wished by beloved President Ho Chi Minh.

With the glorious revolutionary tradition, heroic spirit, creative spirit, and courage, the Party Committee and people of Thai Binh continue to promote the spirit of Dien Bien Phu victory, unite, strive to overcome all difficulties and challenges, and are determined to successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, the Resolution of the 20th Provincial Party Congress, and soon realize the goal of becoming a developed province in the Red River Delta region.
