" I want to participate in more big tournaments with spirit and determination. But now my physical condition is not good anymore, I cannot meet the requirements," Van Quyet explained his decision to leave the Vietnamese team.
The Hanoi striker has just returned to the national team after a year of absence. He played well after coming on in the second half of the match against India. However, Van Quyet surprised fans when he decided to stop playing international football.
"This is my last match wearing the national team jersey. I hope the Vietnamese team will play well and the young players will soon integrate.
I thought I would no longer have the chance to wear the national team jersey. I was very surprised to come back and play in front of the fans. I want to play more, but now is the time for young players. I always accompany them in any position. Over the past 18 years, I have always tried my best and Vietnamese football will develop, the national team will grow stronger, " Nguyen Van Quyet shared.
Van Quyet leaves the Vietnam national team.
Van Quyet played 60 matches and scored 16 goals for the "Golden Star Warriors". Van Quyet participated in 5 AFF Cups and won the championship in 2018. At many times, he was the captain of the national team. Van Quyet was called back by coach Kim Sang-sik after nearly 1 year of absence.
" When we get good results, everyone is happy, but when we lose, everyone needs to be more united. Personally, I feel that my current physical condition cannot meet the team's requirements, so I think this is the time for me to stop, " Van Quyet confided.
Coming on in the second half, Van Quyet played very well and improved the team's attacking quality. He had 2 assists for Quang Hai to face the Indian goalkeeper. But the player of the Hanoi Police Club missed both. Van Quyet had a very dangerous shot but still could not score.
Van Quyet continued: " Personally, I regret not having won today. The Vietnamese team did not play well. I was substituted in the last minutes so I tried very hard. No matter how long I played, I played to the best of my ability, but there were mistakes when playing with young players and a new tactical system.
As an experienced person, I really want to score when I return to the national team, but I am willing to create conditions for my teammates. The Vietnamese team missed too many opportunities ."
