At 11:11 am today, February 5, Nhon Trach 3 power plant (Dong Nai) successfully connected to the grid, reaching a capacity of 50MW.

A representative of the project management board of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Power Corporation (PV Power) said that this is the first time the project has generated electricity on the national grid to begin the testing process. It is expected that in July, Nhon Trach 3 power plant will be put into commercial operation.
According to the project management board, Nhon Trach 3 and 4 power plant projects are located in Ong Keo Industrial Park (Phuoc Khanh commune, Nhon Trach district, Dong Nai) with PV Power as the investor.
Previously, in March 2022, PV Power signed an EPC contract with the consortium of contractors Samsung C&T + Lilama. Currently, the project is in the process of construction and installation.
By the end of January 2025, the project progress had reached nearly 96% of the volume.
Many items of the factory have been tested and put into use such as: 220kV distribution yard system supplying electricity to the factory, main transformer system and self-used transformer of the factory, water treatment system, compressed air system, wastewater treatment system...
At the end of January, Nhon Trach 3 power plant completed the no-load operation test at 3,000 rpm to check the initial synchronization conditions.
Nhon Trach 4 power plant alone is planned to have its first fire in April 2025 and commercial operation in October 2025.
Nhon Trach 3 and 4 power projects are the first power plant projects in Vietnam using liquefied natural gas (LNG) with a total capacity of 1,500-1,600MW and a total investment of 1.4 billion USD.
This is also the only project out of 13 LNG gas-power projects in Power Plan VIII that is under construction.

According to the project management board, problems with land lease contracts and infrastructure usage fees in the industrial park have now been resolved.
These two plants, once put into commercial operation, will add about 9 billion kWh of electricity per year, contributing to ensuring national energy security, realizing the Net zero target and promoting the development of gas-fired power projects in Vietnam according to Power Plan VIII.
According to the leader of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee, the operation of the above two projects will not only solve the energy security problem for the region and the country but also add thousands of billions of VND to the budget of Dong Nai province.
In the coming time, Dong Nai province will continue to accompany businesses to maximize the project's effectiveness.
