Liverpool captain Van Dijk has followed in the footsteps of Mohamed Salah by committing his future to Anfield until 2027. The deal will extend his hugely successful Anfield career to almost a decade.
With this new contract, Van Dijk will still receive the same salary as before, which is 220,000 pounds per week, plus performance-related bonuses, the Dutch star's salary can be up to 400,000 pounds per week.
Speaking to the press after signing his new contract, Van Dijk said: "In my mind, it's always Liverpool. I have no doubt that this is the place for me and my family. I'm a Liverpool man.
Someone called me an adopted Scouser the other day. I was really proud to hear that, it made me feel great."
Not only that, he also moved the fans: "This is where I want to come, to spend my best years, to be successful with the club like we have been in the past years and hopefully in the future too.
And I love this city, I love this club, I love the fans. I love my teammates. I love everything that makes Liverpool what it is and so much more."
Van Dijk, who turns 34 in July, has enjoyed an excellent season under manager Arne Slot and established himself as one of the world's best defenders.
He ranks first for touches and successful passes by a defender in the Premier League this season, and he also wins aerial duels, headed clearances and interceptions.
This season, Liverpool need just six more points from six games to become the new Premier League champions.
This weekend, Liverpool will visit Leicester City. If Liverpool win this match and Arsenal lose to Ipswich, they will be crowned champions with five games to spare.
