Russia warns the West is "playing with fire"
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned on May 28 that Western countries were "playing with fire" by agreeing to supply Ukraine with US-made F-16 fighter jets, calling it an "unacceptable escalation" of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, according to TASS news agency.
"Without a doubt, this is playing with fire," Foreign Minister Lavrov said in an excerpt from a Russian television interview posted on social media, denouncing efforts by the US, UK and their allies in the European Union (EU) to "weaken Russia".
Lavrov issued the warning after Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrey Kelin said in a BBC interview published on May 27 that the outcome of the Russia-Ukraine conflict depends on whether NATO continues to support Kyiv with arms shipments, according to RT.

Asked how long he thought it would take for the conflict to end, Mr Kelin replied that it "depends on the escalation efforts [being] made by NATO countries, especially the UK".
Mr Kelin also warned that "sooner or later, this escalation could take a new dimension that we do not need and we do not want", pointing to Britain's recent decision to send long-range missiles and tanks to Ukraine, as well as ongoing discussions about supplying modern aircraft to Kyiv.
However, Mr Kelin did not rule out the possibility that the conflict could be resolved diplomatically, saying the two sides "could make peace tomorrow".
There is currently no information about the reaction of the US, UK or Ukraine to the above warning from Russia.

"It is necessary to ensure the rapid movement of both military and civilian vehicles, and cargo, including food and construction materials, to the new subjects of the (Russian) Federation," President Putin said in a message posted on the Kremlin's Telegram channel, according to Reuters.
