U23 Vietnam topped the group in the 2024 U23 Asian qualifiers.

In addition, the Organizing Committee also conducts seeding groups based on the achievements of the teams at the 2022 AFC U23 Championship.

With their presence in the quarterfinals of the 2022 tournament, U23 Vietnam is ranked 7th overall and falls into group 2 at the 2024 AFC U23 Championship.

Notably, in group 2 there are also 3 other "big guys": South Korea, Australia and Iraq.

Thus, in the upcoming tournament, coach Philippe Troussier and his team will avoid these opponents.

Meanwhile, in group 1 there are Qatar, Uzbekistan, Japan and Saudi Arabia.

Except for host Qatar, the remaining teams are all in the top 3 highest-ranked teams at the 2022 AFC U23 Championship, including defending champion U23 Saudi Arabia, runner-up U23 Uzbekistan and U23 Japan (3rd place).

Seed group number 3 includes U23 Thailand, U23 Jordan, U23 UAE and U23 Kuwait.

Meanwhile, two other Southeast Asian teams, U23 Indonesia and U23 Malaysia, are in the bottom group with U23 Tajikistan and U23 China.

With such seed group division, U23 Vietnam will most likely have to face regional opponents such as Thailand (group 3), Indonesia, Malaysia (group 4).

As planned, the 2024 AFC U23 Championship will take place from April 15 to May 3, 2024 in Qatar.
