On the morning of September 12, the leaders of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) met and encouraged the Vietnam U20 team, who are currently practicing at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center to complete the final preparations before entering the 2025 AFC U20 Qualifiers.
At the meeting with the whole team, VFF General Secretary Duong Nghiep Khoi, on behalf of VFF leaders, praised the team's training spirit in the recent period, especially the efforts to overcome the unavoidable difficulties caused by the storm. Mr. Duong Nghiep Khoi affirmed that VFF leaders always pay attention and invest in youth teams to build quality successor resources for the national team. Creating conditions for the team to participate in international friendly tournaments and training abroad in the recent past is part of a long-term strategy to improve the level and international competition experience of young players.
In preparation for the 2025 AFC U20 Qualifiers, the Vietnam U20 team gathered on August 15 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, then trained in Japan from August 23 to September 1. However, the team's professional plan did not go smoothly due to unavoidable difficulties. Specifically, during the training session in Japan, the team was forced to cancel the final friendly match due to the impact of Typhoon Shanshan.
After finishing the training and returning home, the training program of Coach Hua Hien Vinh and his team was interrupted again by super typhoon Yagi (typhoon No. 3), causing the team to only have 1 friendly match with the Russian U20 team instead of 2 matches as originally planned. Because the second friendly match was interrupted after 30 minutes due to bad weather, at that time the opposing team was leading 2-0.
However, the whole team has tried to overcome difficulties, maintaining a high training spirit to best prepare for the 2025 U20 Asian qualifiers. "The coaching staff was forced to make changes to the training plan due to the impact of storms and floods, but the goal of U20 Vietnam remains unchanged. The whole team will try to achieve the best results in each match, striving to win a direct ticket to the 2025 U20 Asian Finals," said coach Hua Hien Vinh.
The 2025 AFC U20 Championship qualifiers will feature 45 teams, divided into five groups of five and five groups of four. The 10 group winners and five best runners-up will qualify for the finals with the host team China. In this qualifier, the Vietnam U20 team is in Group A, along with Syria, Bhutan, Guam and Bangladesh. The matches in Group A will be hosted by Vietnam and will take place at Lach Tray Stadium, Hai Phong from September 21 to September 29, 2024.
