Of the 22 Vietnamese players attending the 19th ASIAD, 17 have just competed in the 2023 World Cup. However, captain Huynh Nhu cannot participate.
Lank FC did not release Huynh Nhu because ASIAD 19 was outside the FIFA days schedule, while the Portuguese women's football season was approaching.
In addition to Huynh Nhu, midfielder Tran Thi Thuy Trang has retired from the national team, and young striker Vu Thi Hoa Ba has an ankle injury. The remaining three names are defenders Chuong Thi Kieu, Nguyen Thi My Anh and Tran Thi Thuy Nga.

The team's core remains stable. Some new faces chosen by coach Mai Duc Chung were all born after 2000, such as defenders Nguyen Thi Hoa, Pham Thi Lan Anh, Tran Thi Duyen, and Nguyen Thi Tuyet Ngan. Midfielder Truc Huong participated in a major tournament for the first time after many previous national team training sessions.
Compared to the 18th ASIAD, the team only has striker Pham Hai Yen, Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang, midfielder Thai Thi Thao, goalkeeper Tran Thi Kim Thanh and Khong Thi Hang. At the Asian Games in Indonesia, Vietnam beat Thailand 3-2 and lost to Japan 0-7 in the group stage. In the quarter-finals, the team lost to Taiwan 3-4 in a penalty shootout.
At the 19th ASIAD in China, Vietnam is in Group D, facing Nepal (September 22), Bangladesh (September 25) and Japan (September 28). The matches will all take place at the Wenzhou Olympic Sports Center.
The 19th ASIAD women's football tournament consists of 16 teams divided into five groups. The teams will play a round robin to select the five group winners and three best second-placed teams to advance to the quarterfinals. Vietnam can easily beat Nepal and Bangladesh but will have difficulty playing Japan, even though the opponent does not have the strongest squad.
If Vietnam finishes second, they will face the winner of Group E in the quarterfinals, most likely South Korea. If they win, they will face the winner of Group C, most likely North Korea, or the runner-up of Group E, with the Philippines and Myanmar competing.
Tomorrow afternoon, September 19, Vietnam will leave for China, expected to arrive at the competition venue in Wenzhou city that evening.
