Brazil wants to resume negotiations with Ancelotti. |
Brazil's 4-1 defeat to Argentina in Buenos Aires on March 26 angered many members of the CBF leadership. According to Globo , Dorival's coaching position was questioned by the CBF. Before that, Brazil had not played impressively in the South American World Cup qualifiers.
The defeat to Argentina is therefore likely to be the final straw for Dorival’s future. For the first time in history, Brazil conceded four goals in a World Cup qualifier. Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior even said that Brazil needed to “look at everything” after the match.
Dorival was just a makeshift solution for CBF last year when predecessors like Tite and Fernando Diniz were disappointing.
CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues, who was recently re-elected, needs a new coach to regain his credibility and calm public opinion. Mr. Rodrigues has publicly expressed his ambition to recruit Carlo Ancelotti in 2023.
The Italian tactician is now Rodrigues' top choice after Pep Guardiola. Legendary Ronaldo Nazario also recently revealed that Ancelotti had been in talks to coach Brazil, but Real Madrid later decided to keep him.
Now, as Rodrigues and his colleagues once again look for a replacement, Ancelotti's name is mentioned again. However, Ancelotti's contract with Real Madrid expires in 2026, and the FIFA Club World Cup taking place in June are the main obstacles that make it difficult for Brazil to convince the Italian coach.
If CBF want to negotiate with Ancelotti, they will have to wait until the end of this season. If Ancelotti leads Real to the title, President Florentino Perez will likely keep him.
Ancelotti himself has also stated that he wants to see out his current contract with Real. However, if "Los Blancos" end the season without winning La Liga or the Champions League, it would not be surprising if Ancelotti is fired.
In addition to Ancelotti, former Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis is another candidate. However, many are concerned that the current Flamengo coach does not have enough experience to lead Brazil at the 2026 World Cup.
