In a statement, Russia's Federal Prison Service (FPS) said the two employees were taken hostage while working with prison inspectors, according to RT.
The FPS said the detention center was "operating in normal mode and the situation is under control" and agents were working at the scene.

The FPS added that negotiations for the release of the hostages were underway. Later, Interfax news agency quoted prison officials as saying that the hostages were released unharmed, while their captors were killed when special forces stormed the detention center. It is not yet clear how many of the six hostage-takers were killed, according to Reuters.
While officials did not provide further details about the hostage situation, some media outlets reported that the perpetrators were convicted terrorists.
Telegram channel Baza reported that six perpetrators, three of whom were sentenced to long prison terms after being convicted of belonging to the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) organization and preparing a terrorist attack on the Supreme Court in the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic in southern Russia.
Also according to the Telegram channel Baza, the perpetrators passed the prison guard station after breaking the bars of their cells. The perpetrators are said to have requested a vehicle to leave the prison.
A video shared on social media shows one of the attackers holding a knife sitting next to one of the handcuffed hostages.
Additionally, Telegram channel 112 reported that the perpetrators were blocked inside an area of the detention center so they could not reach the room with the guns, according to RT.
