Thao Uyen said she has loved the Golden Swallow MC competition for a long time but was not confident enough to participate. “When the program started, a friend invited me to participate but I refused. By chance, another friend introduced me to the organizers and they invited me to participate in the selection round. This was like fate because I had refused once but had a second chance so I decided to try,” Uyen shared.

While on a business trip to Khanh Hoa province, Thao Uyen received the news that she had made it into the top 16. Uyen said she was very surprised and did not have much preparation for such a big competition. It was only after finishing the first episode that she realized that she had to seriously invest and plan for the competition, from content to costumes...

“I have not studied any courses related to the work of a MC and I still have pronunciation errors. In addition, I am very confused about choosing the right outfit. I do not know the scoring and evaluation criteria of the judges. I also have a hard time solving the topics and finding material for the MC part, there are practice sessions that require additional support from guests. This year, the competition also requires the ability to dance, sing, etc. to make the performance lively, guiding the contestant to become an all-round MC,” Thao Uyen said.

Uyen shared more: “On the final night, I didn’t dare watch the performance of the other two contestants because I was afraid it would affect my mood, so I just stayed in a corner to practice. The feeling at that time reminded me of the final night of the 2017 Open Pedagogical Beauty Contest, still a passionate Thao Uyen, always telling herself to do her best. At the end of the competition, I received cheers from the judges and the audience, and I was so happy. When my name was announced as the champion, I could only cry with happiness.”

I used to be a student who lacked confidence and didn't dare wear high heels.

When she was a freshman majoring in international studies at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, Thao Uyen lacked confidence when standing in front of a crowd, not standing out despite her pretty appearance and sweet voice. Uyen said that at first she had no intention of participating in the school's 2017 Open Pedagogical Beauty Contest, but thanks to her friends' encouragement, she signed up to try. When participating in the beauty contest, Uyen never thought she would be the beauty queen, but mainly wanted to experience and get to know her seniors.

“I entered the competition with the mindset of learning from experience and improving myself. Moreover, with my height of 1.63m, I am not too outstanding. I don’t know anything about catwalking, because I find it difficult to walk in high heels. However, I am very determined when I do something, so whenever I have free time, I practice, even wearing high heels when walking around the house. Luckily, my efforts were recognized and I was awarded the title of beauty queen on the final night,” Thao Uyen said.

Thao Uyen said that thanks to the title of Miss of the 2017 Open Pedagogical Beauty Contest, she had the opportunity to "get involved" in the job of MC for school activities. Besides, Uyen is always aware of maintaining her personal image, studying hard, as well as participating in community activities.

With the title of Golden Swallow 2023 champion, Uyen said that she has more opportunities in her professional MC career. Thao Uyen hopes to spread positive messages to young people in the future. When asked if she will participate in any more beauty contests, Uyen said that she is satisfied with the title of beauty queen and will focus on improving herself to become a good MC.

Director Nguyen Hoang Long (stage name Long Ao Dai), who has been a judge and producer of the Pedagogical Beauty contest for 14 years, said: "Since participating in the 2017 Pedagogical Beauty Open Contest, Thao Uyen has been a girl with a lot of positive energy and determination in studying and activities. Uyen is one of the beauty queens who left me with the most impressions about her efforts to change herself. During the period of social distancing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Uyen, along with many other young people, was very active in supporting food for the people. After 6 years, when I saw Uyen's image at the 2023 Golden Swallow MC contest, I was very proud because I saw that she had made great progress in both talent and beauty."
