On the morning of October 22, the People's Committee of Binh Duong province held a press conference to inform about the local socio-economic situation in the first 9 months of 2024, including information about the refund of tuition fees that Thu Dau Mot University (under the People's Committee of Binh Duong province) had wrongly collected from students.

Responding at the press conference, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong, Chairman of the Board of Thu Dau Mot University, said that the school is currently coordinating with the Binh Duong Department of Finance to carry out procedures to refund money to students.

According to Dr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong, to pay back the above amount, it is necessary to review about 20,000 students, including some students who have graduated and have no contact information; however, Thu Dau Mot University will also try to make the payment to students as soon as possible.

Dr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong, Chairman of the Board of Thu Dau Mot University, said that the school is currently coordinating with the Department of Finance to carry out procedures to refund money to students.

Previously, responding to Thanh Nien Newspaper, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong said that in the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years, the school's final year students completed practice credits.

According to regulations, each practice class has about 40-45 students, but the school has arranged practice classes with 20-25 students due to insufficient facilities and practice equipment, leading to many additional costs (twice as much as the regulations), leading to having to collect additional tuition fees for practice credits from students.

"Because the school has just implemented financial autonomy, there are different understandings and applications of regulations, so the determination of tuition fees for practice credits has not been unified. Therefore, the State Audit has audited and requested to submit to the budget or return to students as soon as possible...", said Dr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong.

After the conclusion of the State Audit, Thu Dau Mot University chose to pay money into the budget to keep up with the progress as required by the audit agency, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong added.

Previously, Thanh Nien Newspaper received many comments from readers reflecting that Thu Dau Mot University illegally collected 37 billion VND from students, but the school chose to pay it into the budget instead of refunding it to students.
