Students will both study and participate in traditional activities on Lunar New Year.

Learn and experience Lunar New Year

Starting this morning, January 30 to February 2, every day, students at Nguyen Du Secondary School (District 1) will no longer study two sessions of math, literature, history, geography... but will combine them with Lunar New Year experience activities.

Depending on each grade, students will participate in cultural activities on the traditional Tet holiday of the nation. Accordingly, 6th graders will draw decorative cards and paintings for display during Tet, 7th graders will make coconut jam, a traditional dish, with their teachers. 8th graders will pickle pickled onions and 9th graders will wrap Chung cakes with their parents.

Student Duong Nguyen Khoi Nhi (class 9/4) shared: "The last week before Tet holiday, my friends and I were so excited that we couldn't really focus on studying. For me, Tet is the time to go back to my hometown to visit my grandmother and play with my brothers and sisters after a long time, from summer until now, so I look forward to it every day. Today, my friends' parents taught me how to wrap banh chung, and when I get home in a few days, I will help my grandmother."

Students and parents enthusiastically participate in Tet holiday experience activities

Ms. Nguyen Doan Trang, Principal of Nguyen Du Secondary School (District 1), said that understanding the psychology of students, the school built a plan for this school week nearly 2 months ago, still maintaining learning but combining experiential activities.

In particular, the products made by students and their parents will be sold to raise funds for charity at the Spring Festival on February 1. Then, on February 2, student representatives from each class will join teachers to give Tet gifts to lonely elderly people and those in difficult circumstances in District 1. "This is a traditional activity of Nguyen Du Secondary School students. Although the amount of money is not much, the school hopes that students will understand the value of sharing, especially during Tet, a day when families are reunited, but somewhere there are still very lonely people."

At Tran Hung Dao Primary School (District 1), Principal Le Thanh Huong said that teachers will gradually reduce knowledge lessons this week, replacing them with fun and experiential activities suitable for primary school students.

Many festival activities take place this week

Similarly, Mr. Dinh Phu Cuong, Principal of Nguyen Van Luong Secondary School (District 6), said that students still have to ensure their classes from now until February 2, but there will be activities such as arranging apricot and peach blossoms, and drawing decorations to blend in with the atmosphere of preparing for the upcoming Lunar New Year.

Mr. Cuong said that at this time of year, parents are busy preparing for Tet, so the school wants students to have the same mindset. Students can make small, pretty apricot or peach branches to display on their desks or decorate their bookshelves...

Mr. Huynh Thanh Phu, Principal of Bui Thi Xuan High School (District 1), shared that most schools this week have traditional activities for Tet and spring festivals, so students are excited and eager. They not only decorate their classrooms together, but also clean and decorate their houses with their relatives when they return home to welcome spring.

Because the Tet atmosphere spreads everywhere, the spirit of welcoming the new spring is excited, so all teachers have a light-hearted mentality, not focusing on testing knowledge. In particular, teachers of social subjects integrate traditional Tet rituals into the introduction, instructing and teaching students about cultural behavior during Tet.
