In order to further expand partnerships in the field of higher education, at the invitation of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), representatives of 18 German universities visited Vietnam to participate in networking events in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. They met to explore new cooperation possibilities with 25 Vietnamese universities and to strengthen existing cooperation.

In addition, within the framework of two international education exhibitions, German universities directly communicated with students to provide specific information about study programs and life in Germany. Through this, they reached more than 2,000 Vietnamese students.

Vietnam and Germany are close partners in academic cooperation. The numbers prove it: there are currently nearly 200 cooperation programs between German and Vietnamese universities. In addition, more than 7,000 Vietnamese students are studying in Germany. Many of them, after graduating, decide to stay in Germany for several years to gain work experience and build a professional network. They receive support not only from universities but also from the German Government. This shows the importance that Germany places on the exchange of highly qualified human resources with Vietnam.

During the two evening parties, German Ambassador, Ms. Helga Margarete Barth and Mr. Christopher Scholl, Deputy Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, both emphasized that Germany continues to pay strong attention to strengthening the academic relationship between Germany and Vietnam, especially in the year of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic relations. On the Vietnamese side, Ms. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam, emphasized the importance of international cooperation for the further development of higher education and science in Vietnam. In this respect, Germany is an important partner.

With over 400,000 international students and over 75,000 researchers from around the world, Germany has long been recognised as a prestigious partner in the global academic arena. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) plays a central role in this relationship.
