With a history of more than a hundred years and the economic values ​​it brings to farmers, Thanh Tra (TT) - a specialty fruit in Binh Minh Town - has become one of the agricultural brands of the province. The TT Festival in 2025 and the performance to set a Vietnamese record with 135 culinary dishes made with Binh Minh TT ingredients are expected to promote and bring TT fruit products to the world.

Setting a Vietnamese record with 135 culinary dishes made with pomelo as an ingredient

TT is one of the specialty fruits and is grown a lot in Binh Minh town, mainly in Dong Thanh commune for more than a hundred years. TT is in season from after Tet to the third lunar month. In recent times, TT not only consumes fresh fruit but also has many quality products processed and brought to the market such as: TT jam, TT jam, TT wine, ... and many dishes with spices of TT fruit from many family meals to luxurious parties, contributing to increasing the value of TT fruit, increasing income for local people.

With its delicious, sweet and sour taste, attractive bright yellow color and health benefits, TT fruit has become a favorite choice of many tourists. For the above reasons, the Provincial People's Committee decided to choose Dong Thanh commune - the capital of TT, to organize the first TT Festival on a large scale. Besides honoring and introducing a specialty fruit, there are also many activities such as: culinary contest using ingredients from Binh Minh TT fruit; exhibition space to introduce OCOP products of the province; reenactment of the countryside market scene; introduction and demonstration of the production process of My Hoa tofu skin.

The highlight of the event was the culinary competition using ingredients from Binh Minh TT fruit with the participation of 20 teams from units in the province. Each team cooked 7 dishes, including 1 dish for the judging competition and 6 dishes for display to set records. From TT fruit, through skillful hands, TT dishes were meticulously prepared, attractive. Among them, many dishes are both traditional and very modern, such as lotus seed soup, tofu skin, TT; soft tofu with TT sauce; TT sweet potato salad with crab sticks, TT stir-fried squid, TT stir-fried shrimp with asparagus, TT jam, TT crepe, TT milk tea, TT lemongrass honey tea...

According to the organizers, the dishes were elaborately prepared, diverse, delicious and contained high nutritional value. Participating in a major event for the first time, Mr. Nguyen Phuong Dong (representative of the contest team from the Women's Union of My Hoa commune) said: "I am very honored to participate in the contest and through this, I have learned many new ways to prepare dishes from TT fruit. I hope that the value of TT fruit as well as products processed from TT ingredients will reach a new level and be widely known by many people."

The TT Festival is one of the activities in the series of activities of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Week of Vinh Long province in 2025. Attending this festival with her family, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung (from Vinh Long city) shared: “My family members and I have experienced interesting activities. I hope that events like this will be held regularly, so that tourists know that our locality has delicious fruits and especially many unique dishes.”

Opportunity for pomelo to go far

TT trees in Binh Minh in particular and Vinh Long province in general not only bring economic value but also contribute to building the agricultural product brand of the province. Many TT growers said that TT is a wild forest tree, growing on its own thanks to the natural forest and mountains. Because of the special flavor of this fruit, during the land reclamation process, people brought it here to germinate and develop.

It is a woody plant with a long life span and drought resistance, so it is often planted in front of houses for shade; planted as an ornamental plant in residential areas, administrative agencies, and TT. It does not require much nutrition, requires little care, but flowers and bears fruit naturally.

Winning first prize in the TT delicacy contest, Ms. Bui Thi Thu Trang - Vice President of the Women's Union of Dong Thanh commune, said: "Looking at the table of dishes made from TT fruit, we see that it is not just a fruit, a dish but an opportunity. I hope that, in the near future, TT will not only appear in small gardens in the homeland, but will also be present in international supermarkets and luxury restaurants. And when mentioning TT, people will immediately think of Vietnam.

We are not just introducing a dish, but expressing an aspiration: Let Vietnamese cuisine reach far, let products from Vietnam reach out to the world, let Vietnamese cuisine not only carry the taste of the homeland, but also become a source of pride on the international culinary map".

Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Thi Quyen Thanh said: This is the first time the province has organized a TT festival, with the purpose of honoring and introducing a specialty fruit of Binh Minh town. At the same time, it is expected that through the festival event, Dong Thanh commune will become one of the attractive tourist destinations of the province and one of the indispensable attractions in the tourist program of visitors when coming to Vinh Long, contributing to the supply chain of high-quality products and services for tourists, enhancing the value of Vinh Long fruits in the market and creating a deep impression on visitors, contributing to the sustainable development of Vinh Long's agricultural sector.

TT is rustic, durable and fragrant, loyal just like the character of the farmers in our hometown. The tree is attached and close to people's lives, bringing a peaceful space in front of each porch. People cherish the tree, rely on the tree; the tree protects people, beautifies the streets, becomes a significant source of income, helping people's lives become more stable. This has deeply and meaningfully demonstrated the close relationship, relying on each other between people and nature.
The TT Festival 2025 event and the performance to set a Vietnamese record with 135 culinary dishes made from Binh Minh TT fruit will spread strongly through media channels to bring information to domestic and foreign tourists, contributing to achieving the target of 2.15 million tourists in 2025 and tourism revenue of 1,150 billion VND as set out in the Provincial Party Committee Resolution.
