The Hanoi People's Committee has held a ceremony to put the elevated section of the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station (metro) into commercial operation. Thus, after more than 10 years of construction, the capital now officially has two metro lines (Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station and Cat Linh - Ha Dong) serving the people, contributing to reducing traffic congestion on the Quang Trung - Nguyen Trai radial axis and National Highway 32 - Xuan Thuy - Cau Giay. Speaking with VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Vu Nguyen Truong, General Director of Hanoi Metro, said that in the first 2 weeks of free travel, the number of passengers on the elevated section of the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro line was very high, reaching a record on August 11, with more than 100,000 people. When switching to ticket sales, the number of passengers decreased, but they were all people with real travel needs.

Specifically, the current number of passengers is about 40% of the time when customers experience it. From Monday to Friday, the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro serves an average of 18-19 thousand passengers per day. On Saturday and Sunday, it serves about 12-14 thousand passengers. "The important thing is that passengers traveling on the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro line from Monday to Friday are monthly ticket holders and during rush hour. That helps reduce traffic congestion on Highway 32 - Xuan Thuy - Cau Giay", Mr. Truong said, adding that the newly inaugurated metro line still has a lot of room to serve passengers. Regarding the Cat Linh - Ha Dong metro line, the General Director of Hanoi Metro said that after 3 years of commercial operation, it has shown clear effectiveness, many people have gradually changed their habits of using personal vehicles, switching to taking the train, thereby contributing to reducing traffic congestion in the western area of ​​Hanoi. Currently, on average, this railway line serves 43-44 thousand passengers per day during the week, and 22-24 thousand people on weekends. Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan said that the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro line plays an important role in urban transport planning, aiming to solve traffic pressure, reduce air pollution, and improve the quality of life of the capital's people. "With a length of more than 12.5 km, the elevated section is 8.5 km long from Nhon to Cau Giay, after 3 months of commercial operation, the line has served more than 2 million passengers, reflecting the great demand and strong support from the people," Mr. Duong Duc Tuan assessed the effectiveness of the capital's second urban railway line. The Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro project is invested by the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board with a length of 12.5km. Of which, the elevated section (Nhon - Cau Giay) is 8.5km long, the underground section (Cau Giay - Hanoi Railway Station) is 4km long. On August 8, the elevated section was put into commercial operation. Currently, the investor and contractor are constructing the underground section, expected to be completed in 2027.
