Round 32 of the Ho Chi Minh City 3-cushion carom billiards World Cup began on May 24. Here, the world's top players such as Cho Myung Woo, Tran Quyet Chien, Dick Jaspers, Torbjorn Blomdahl... began competing alongside players who had passed the qualifying round. In Group B, Tran Quyet Chien did not encounter many difficulties to win the top spot. In the opening match, he defeated Chiem Hong Thai 40-32 after 20 turns. After that, the world's number 2 player continued to easily defeat Kim Dong Ryong 40-34 after 21 turns. Two early victories gave Tran Quyet Chien an advantage. Therefore, despite losing to Glen Hofman in the final round, he still advanced as the top player of Group B. While Tran Quyet Chien maintained his form, Bao Phuong Vinh made many people regret. The reigning World Champion started off well with an easy 40-13 victory over Tran Chi Thanh in the opening match. However, he then managed a 40-40 draw against Ruben Legazpi, forcing him to at least draw with the legendary Eddy Merckx in the final round.

This was a very difficult task and Bao Phuong Vinh lost quickly 10-40 after only 17 turns. This result made him only 3rd in group E, stopping early at the 3-cushion billiards carom billiards World Cup in Ho Chi Minh City. Although Bao Phuong Vinh was eliminated early, Vietnam still had two other representatives who caused many surprises: Tran Duc Minh and Nguyen Chi Long. Having to start the tournament from the qualifying round, Tran Duc Minh still played steadfastly and defeated the world's 9th-ranked player Kim Haeng Jik in the first round of group G. This result opened up a ticket to the next round when he finished the group stage in second place. Nguyen Chi Long even did something more extraordinary. Not highly rated, he still caused a surprise in group D. On his journey, Chi Long caused a "shock" when he defeated Torbjorn Blomdahl, a player with 46 World Cup titles. He then lost to Cha Myeong Jong but managed to win against Van Etten to take the top spot. Thus, Vietnam has a total of three players participating in the round of 16: Tran Quyet Chien, Nguyen Chi Long and Tran Duc Minh. On May 25, the Ho Chi Minh City 3-cushion carom billiards World Cup will enter the round of 16 and then the quarter-finals.
