The National Assembly Standing Committee has passed a resolution approving the election results of the deputy head of the 15th National Assembly Delegation of Ho Chi Minh City.

Accordingly, Ms. Nguyen Tran Phuong Tran - National Assembly delegate, City Party Committee member, President of Ho Chi Minh City Women's Union - holds the position of Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegation of the 15th term of Ho Chi Minh City.

Previously, Ms. Van Thi Bach Tuyet - Head of the Organizing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee - held this position.

On February 20, the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases said that recently, the hospital's virus and parasitology department has received and treated many patients with liver abscesses caused by parasitic infections.

Test results showed that the patient tested positive for three types of parasites, including large liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica), dog tapeworm (Toxocara canis) and strongyloides stercoralis.

Doctor Tran Duy Hung, head of the virus and parasitology department, said: Exploiting the patient's medical history shows that the living environment and living and eating habits play an important role in the transmission of the disease.

Dr. Hung shared that some patients he examined recently had large abscesses, up to 38 x 26mm, scattered throughout the liver. If not treated promptly, these abscesses can cause a series of dangerous consequences such as: secondary infection, abdominal infection if the abscess ruptures into the abdomen; sepsis if bacteria from the abscess spread into the blood; liver failure, multiple organ failure if liver damage is severe and prolonged.

People need to eat cooked food, drink boiled water, wash their hands before eating and especially limit eating raw foods such as raw vegetables, raw fish salad, sour meat. If using raw vegetables, they must be washed thoroughly with clean water and rinsed under running water.

Saltwater intrusion is on the rise, Mekong Delta provinces are proactively responding

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the 2024-2025 dry season, saline intrusion in the Mekong Delta will be higher than the average of many years and will be concentrated from February to April 2025.

Saltwater intrusion is likely to penetrate deep into the Mekong Delta estuaries and increase, affecting people's lives, agriculture, and socio-economic development in many localities such as Tien Giang, Soc Trang, Ca Mau, etc.

According to the Soc Trang Province Hydrometeorological Station, the highest salinity forecast on the Hau River in Tran De district is from 23.8 - 25.8‰; the center of Long Phu district is from 19.7 - 21.7‰; Dai Ngai (Long Phu district) is from 9.9 - 11.9‰; An Lac Tay (Ke Sach district) is from 5.2 - 7.2‰.

The highest salinity at stations on the Hau River is likely to appear from February to March 2025, lasting for a long time due to a shortage of fresh water from upstream (Mekong River).

Head of Hydrological Forecasting Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Phung Tien Dung said that the trend of saltwater intrusion in the above area from February 21 to 28 will continue to decrease in the first 2-3 days of the week and then increase again until the weekend.

The highest salinity at the stations is approximately equal to and lower than the highest salinity in February 2024.

The depth of the 4% salinity boundary during this period is likely to be as follows: The range of salinity intrusion on the Vam Co Dong and Vam Co Tay rivers is 40-52km; the Cua Tieu and Cua Dai rivers is 35-42km; the Ham Luong river is 40-50km; the Co Chien river is 35-42km; the Hau river is 35-42km; and the Cai Lon river is 30-37km.

Saline intrusion in the Mekong Delta in the 2024-2025 dry season will be higher than the average of many years, but not as severe as in the 2015-2016 and 2019-2020 dry seasons.
