Experience the old classroom at the Temple of Literature, Quoc Tu Giam

In the history of Vietnamese education, especially in the early stages of basic education, the role of teachers was very important in the process of becoming an adult of the learner. Teachers in the ancient education system of Vietnam were always respected and admired by students, people and society. That is not only a cultural trait but also an important way of behaving of the Vietnamese people. The duty of a teacher is not only to teach letters but also to teach people to be good people, to teach students to become people with good morals, to later establish themselves and help others. Not only that, teachers also teach people about customs, rituals, and national historical traditions; at the same time, they compose and copy funeral orations, documents for village officials and dignitaries, or write parallel sentences for people on holidays. At the National Relic Site of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam, tourists can hear about the teacher through the tour guide's presentation and get the words written by the teacher's incarnation in the Dai Thanh area (or Bai Duong area). This is also the night tour of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam that will bring visitors new experiences, different from visiting the relic during the day. The photo series was submitted by the author to the Photo and Video Contest "Happy Vietnam - Happy Vietnam", organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications.

Since the Temple of Literature Night Experience Program, the space of the teacher's classroom has been recreated. Visitors not only get to see the image of the teacher preparing the inkstone to "paint" a calligraphy work, but also participate in the class, transforming into students studying day and night, following the teacher to learn etiquette and "learn words". Visitors can explore the space depicting a corner of the examination hall with the image of a tent that is always associated with the lives of Confucian scholars. It is a complex of installations with the theme of returning home to honor ancestors, where visitors can experience the feeling of a new graduate riding a horse back to his old village, especially with the banyan tree and the small arch at the end of the exhibition area leading to the Thai Hoc yard, making anyone who had a childhood associated with the countryside feel nostalgic before such familiar images. The teacher guides the students to write according to two pre-presented models; teaches the students step by step how to write with a brush pen. After completing the lesson, visitors will receive a mark on their work. The teacher's class is one of the experience categories in the Temple of Literature - Imperial Academy Night Experience Program with the theme "The Quintessence of Confucianism". Since opening to welcome visitors at night, the relic site has become more vibrant thanks to the practical experience categories. In which, the teacher's class is commented by the majority of tourists as the most worth experiencing place, bringing wonderful feelings that can only be found at the Temple of Literature - Imperial Academy at night. In 2024, the Photo and Video Contest "Happy Vietnam - Happy Vietnam" continues to be organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications in coordination with the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists on the website   https://happy.vietnam.vn is open to all Vietnamese citizens and foreigners aged 15 and over. The contest aims to honor individuals and groups with positive information products, making practical contributions to the propaganda and promotion of a beautiful image of Vietnam to the world.
