This was quite an unexpected development for Chinese enterprises when they attended AgroViet 2023 for the first time, organized by the Agricultural Trade Promotion Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, taking place from September 14 to 17 in Hanoi. Here, many types of Chinese fruits sold very well.
Chinese fruit booth attracts many visitors at AgroViet 2023
Ms. Nguyen Thao My, a sales staff at Lien Hop Supply Chain Joint Stock Company (China), said that at AgroViet, the company has 2 booths displaying phalaenopsis orchids, vegetables and fruits imported from Yunnan province (China).
On the first day of opening her booth, Ms. My was quite surprised when many customers came to buy grapes, pomegranates, apples, etc., all the goods brought to the fair were sold out.
"Customers asked to buy a lot but there was no product to sell, only a few boxes of sample products for display. We immediately contacted suppliers from China to transfer. It is expected that on the morning of September 16, the goods will arrive for retail and delivery to customers who pre-ordered," said Ms. My.
According to Ms. My, in addition to participating in the fair, this business has opened a product introduction center on Vo Chi Cong Street (Tay Ho District, Hanoi) to serve consumers.
At the Chinese business booth, the fruits are packaged very beautifully. The way of selling is quite flexible, depending on consumer demand or for gifts, the goods will have different prices.
Specifically, for milk grapes, the price per box of 3 bunches is 400,000 VND. If there is no need for canning, grapes are sold at retail price of type A (large fruit) at 140,000 VND/kg, type B (small fruit) at 95,000 VND/kg.
Similar to apples, the retail price is 50,000 VND/kg for 2 fruits per kg, the smaller type is 35,000 VND/kg. If it is a box of 6 fruits, the price is 250,000 VND/kg. For pomegranates, the price with a gift box of 6 fruits, weighing from 3.5 - 3.8 kg is 250,000 VND, the retail price without box is 39,000 VND/kg.
Fruit is canned as a gift, but can also be sold at a cheaper retail price if the buyer does not need the canning.
A representative of a Chinese enterprise with a representative office located on Pham Hung Street (Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi) shared that this enterprise opened an additional business segment of importing agricultural products from Yunnan (China) to Vietnam and joined AgroViet to introduce to the market and received the attention of many customers.
"We have surveyed Long Bien wholesale market in advance. The amount of Chinese fruits traded here is very large, so we are confident in importing products to sell in Hanoi and then expanding to other localities," said the Chinese businessman.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Van Huong, living on Dang Thuy Tram Street (Cau Giay District, Hanoi), said that her first impression was that the imported fruits from China all had very beautiful designs and packaging.
Each fruit box is wrapped and lined with foam to prevent the fruit from being crushed or damaged during transportation from China to Vietnam.
"Here, all the goods are officially imported, with clear origins, so we feel more secure than buying goods at the market," said Ms. Huong.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Tien, Director of the Agricultural Trade Promotion Center, said that China is Vietnam's main export market. In recent years, the Chinese market is not as easy-going as before. In particular, Chinese fruits brought to AgroViet are packaged as gifts, with beautiful, luxurious packaging.
"This year, AgroViet invited more businesses from Yunnan province because we want Vietnamese businesses to learn how to package products from Chinese businesses, thereby building similar products so that Vietnamese agricultural products can meet consumer tastes and penetrate the market better," said Mr. Tien.
