Ho Chi Minh City issues regulations on extra teaching and learning

In order to answer concerns and guide the teaching and learning in accordance with the law, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education has just issued a guidance document.

On February 17, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Ho Chi Minh City signed a document issuing instructions for implementing Circular 29/2024 of the Ministry of Education and Training regulating extra teaching and learning in Ho Chi Minh City.

In a document sent to heads of the Department of Education and Training of districts, towns and Thu Duc city, principals of high schools, general schools with many levels, continuing education centers, vocational education centers, leaders of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City requested leaders of units to urgently implement the following specific contents:

- Organize the implementation, dissemination and propaganda to cadres, civil servants, teachers, employees, students and parents about Circular No. 29/2024 of the Ministry of Education and Training regulating extra teaching and learning. Thoroughly educate all cadres and teachers of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training to strictly implement regulations on extra teaching and learning; have a plan to inspect and review; resolutely not let extra teaching and learning not in accordance with regulations happen inside and outside of schools.

- Continue to implement synchronous solutions to deploy the 2018 General Education Program to ensure quality. The creation of regular and periodic tests and assessments must be consistent with the 2018 General Education Program, not causing pressure on students to study extra.

Absolutely do not relax the organization of review and training for students with unsatisfactory learning results; organize for final grade students to strengthen review for entrance exams and graduation exams according to the school's education plan; determine that this is the responsibility of schools to help students meet the requirements for each subject of each grade according to the regulations of the 2018 General Education Program. Timely detect, handle and propose appropriate solutions to difficulties and problems in the process of implementing Circular No. 29.

Particularly for the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City and districts, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City noted that it is necessary to focus on disseminating to primary schools about absolutely not organizing extra classes for primary school students. Direct schools to adjust and develop plans to implement the 2-session/day program in accordance with the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program.
