From now until the end of the school year, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will conduct a survey to assess the application and English proficiency of all public and non-public students in grades 3, 7, 8, 9, and 11. What is the purpose of this survey?

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will organize a survey to assess the application and English skills of students in 5 grades in the near future.

The leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training informed that from now until the end of the 2024-2025 school year, the Department will conduct a survey to assess the capacity of students (public and non-public) of 5 grades, including grades 3, 7, 8, 9 and 11 online on computers. In particular, the Department will conduct a survey of students in grades 3, 7, 8 on application capacity and students in grades 9 and 11 on foreign language capacity.

The structure of the assessment questions for each grade level is built in the form of objective multiple choice tests.

Grade 3 : Built in an integrated manner, students do the test in 40 minutes. Each test consists of 20 questions (10 Vietnamese questions, 10 math questions). The survey content is limited to the first 20 weeks. The survey time is March 28.

Grades 7 and 8 : A 40-question test to assess students' application skills in the subjects of literature, math, English, natural sciences, history and geography, and civics. The test takes 60 minutes. The Department of Education and Training will conduct a survey of 100% of grade 7 and 8 students at public and non-public secondary schools via computers or smart devices such as tablets and smartphones at the end of the second semester.

Grades 9 and 11 : English proficiency test (90 minutes) in the standard format of the Cambridge Assessment English Language Assessment, including listening, reading and writing skills. 100% of grade 9 and 11 students at public and non-public secondary and high schools will participate in the test on computers or smart devices, scheduled for April.

The leader of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said that in previous school years, the department conducted capacity surveys with students in grades 3, 7, 9 and 11, and this school year, it has expanded to include students in grade 8.

The survey aims to evaluate the results and quality of teaching and learning of public and non-public teachers and students. The survey results will serve as a basis for professional groups to focus on more effective professional activities, ensuring the creation of periodic end-of-year tests in the direction of developing learners' qualities and abilities... At the same time, on that basis, measures will be proposed to promote strengths and overcome weaknesses in teaching and learning. In particular, the survey of the abilities of all grade 8 students is also aimed at orienting the entrance exam to grade 10.

Also from the results of the survey on foreign language proficiency of students in grades 9 and 11, the specialized department of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will evaluate the teaching and learning of foreign languages ​​in secondary and high schools to have directions to further improve the quality. In particular, the survey results also help the city's education sector have more data to develop a project to make English the second language in schools according to Conclusion No. 91 of the Politburo.
