Ha Long City has a 50km long coastline, a sea area of about 434km2 with beaches and tidal flats suitable for raising aquatic specialties. Moreover, Ha Long also has the world natural heritage Ha Long Bay, in addition to its geological and geomorphological values, it is also an important fishing ground. These are potentials and advantages that create the premise for the development of the city's aquatic economy.
In particular, during the development process, Ha Long City has focused on directing the development of the fisheries industry associated with protecting the marine environment and regenerating aquatic resources. Currently, aquatic resources are showing signs of positive recovery, especially in strictly protected areas in the core zone of Ha Long Bay. In 2024, the city's aquatic output will reach nearly 5,000 tons, with a production value of nearly 800 billion VND (accounting for over 60% of the total production value of the agricultural sector). In 2025, the city aims to reach an exploited aquatic output of over 5,000 tons, with a production value of 850 billion VND.
At the fish seed release ceremony, delegates and people together reviewed the tradition of the aquaculture industry. At the same time, about 200,000 aquatic seeds were released, including: giant tiger prawn, sea bream, grouper, and sea bass. Of which, the seed source supported by units, businesses and seed trading establishments accounted for about 60%.
The maintenance of the release of aquatic species into natural waters is carried out annually by Ha Long City to raise people's awareness of the meaning and benefits of regenerating, protecting and developing aquatic resources. Through this, each person will become a propagandist, a practitioner, joining hands to protect the environment, protect aquatic resources and resolutely say no to illegal fishing, preventing acts of destroying aquatic resources.
