TASS news agency reported on October 21 that Mr. Putin and Mr. Guterres will discuss the conflict in the Middle East and the situation in Ukraine when they meet on October 24, on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia.
“It is expected that during the meeting in Kazan, along with the theme of the activities of the United Nations, urgent issues on the international agenda, including the Middle East crisis and the situation around Ukraine, will be discussed,” the Kremlin said in a statement.

The Kremlin said Russia has always supported strengthening the United Nations' leadership role in world affairs based on the principles of international law, sovereign equality of states, non-use of force, and the inability to distort history and revise the results of World War II.
As of the morning of October 22, the United Nations has not confirmed this meeting. Regarding the Ukraine issue, Mr. Guterres previously called for a "just peace", respect for international law and Ukraine's territorial integrity, according to AFP.

Mr. Guterres last visited Russia in April 2022, at the beginning of the Ukraine conflict, when he discussed with Mr. Putin proposals for humanitarian assistance and the evacuation of civilians from conflict zones.
BRICS International Forum President Purnima Anand said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' attendance at the BRICS summit shows the importance of the group. The event will take place on October 22-24.
Within the framework of the BRICS summit, President Putin will have separate meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 22, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said.
At the event, Mr. Putin is also expected to meet leaders from many other countries.
